| | Fishing in Lake Zurich
Hi All,
Having read all the posts detailing the myriad ways you can get yourself beaten up, strip searched and hauled off to jail for crimes such as snorting loudly on a Wednesday, I thought I better check if anyone knows am I going to get hung, drawn and quartered for sticking a hand-line in Lake Zurich to try yank out some of the fat looking fish I've seen? In particular, would it be wrong to lurk around the mannerbad near Selnau (behind Paddy Reilly's) aiming to catch dinner? I know that sounds wrong for many reasons but more interested in local regulations.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers

Top tip Lob. Thanks. Still cannot believe you don't need some kind of license. Guess I'll find out soon enough, when the the Lake Cops keel haul me.

I'm certain you will need a permit. I had to get a day one for me and a mate to do some lake fishing up here. Each 'fishing" area seems to have it's own shop where you can get a license... our is in an angling shop in Flums.
We were also given a booklet (had to pay about 30 CHF deposit) to fill in telling what fish we caught, where abouts, size and any other comments. If you fill it in and send it back you get your deposit back and they know which ares they should be re-stocking etc.
I suggest you go to a hunting or angling shop in ZH and ask, they will probably sell the permits there.
Mike
PS we didn't catch anything but had a lot of fun | This user would like to thank grumpygrapefruit for this useful post: | |

The fishing line has to be between 9.68 and 9.72 meters and you have to hold the fishing rod with the left hand farther away; other than that, the following rules apply: - In canton Zürich, everybody can fish for free in the following places: Zürichsee, Greifensee, Pfäffikersee und Türlersee
- with a single fishing rod,
- no living, dead or dummy fish decoys, but only
- a single bait made of deerskin, bacon, worms, maggots or rubberhose.
- No fishing between 11pm and 4am in summer and 8pm - 5am in autumn, winter and spring.
- No fising in protected areas, especially reeds

Thought so. Thanks for heads up Grapefruit. Not to fussed about catching fish, more into the hunt....and sitting round with a can of beer. Probably cry like a teenaged girl if actually I caught something.

"a single bait made of deerskin, bacon, worms, maggots or rubberhose. "
Nathu is this serious? How the hell do you get a fish to go for a rubberhose? To be honest I've only ever done sea-fishing with a hunk of meat, tow-rope and crow-bar hook, so not up on fishing in a lake. Good links and detailed answer though.
Cheers

I'm no fisher (and don't even eat them fishies) but it is written there, "Gummischlüchli" which translates to "small rubber hose".

Maybe the rubber hose is included for fishermen like you who don't want their beer drinking interupted by actually catching a fish... |

Would a "Gummischlüchli" be one of those brightly coloured rubber lures I've seen people with on the end of their line?

you can also use a spinner.caught loads of egli in wadenswil harbour using this technique. what you can't use is "hegene" ie feathers ,usually 6 or so
on the line - tried this (ho ho!) and is very effective - but you will get busted by the fish gestapo.

We often thow a line in Zurich lake the occasional Sunday afternoon, not all that much success yet I must admit, we also head off to Glarus now and then to do some fly fishing in the rivers however licenses are then involved in the whole process.
Halb Insel Au, is also a nice spot to go.........
My next outing will be from a boat on the Zürich See, you need a license to fish from a boat on the lake but that when you hook the big boys...the elusive Hecht ( Pike)

You will get hung in that place behind Maner Badi!!!!
But you can fish from after the bridge and all te way to the main station. And then when you are on the sihl or Limatte, then you will get hung again.
You need a special authorisation. Without Swiss Sportsfisher Brevet you can only buy daily permits for different waters. They are around 30 franks each and you need to be in time for the opening hours to buy one. I suppose you will be on the water at 4 am, so ... well, I do it and I am still alive... but also, I am a blond woman, when caught, I play an idiot.
You can fish without permit in all lakes of the canton ZH, but with one single rode and only natural baits. And if you are not sure, cut off your line as soon as you see some boat approaching.
And careful, forbidden to fish at night except on Griefensee.

Hi,
in few days I'll travel to Switzerland (Zurich) for one week. So I would try fishing in ZurichSee. Can I fishing for free with one fishing rod (natural baits) even if I don't live in Zurich and I not citizen of Swiss? Can I fishing from the bridge or bank?
I will go with airplane, so I can't have a fishing rod with myself (for reel and others small stuff I will find some space in my bag). The best way is find cheep rod in shop or I better try find rod in Advertisement area?

| | Re: Fishing in Lake Zurich | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | This is nice and high-level information - the effective rules in place for lake Zurich can be found at http://www.aln.zh.ch/internet/baudir...ngelrecht.html (Google: "Angeln Zürichsee")
Synposis: Fishing with a rod from the shoreline is allowed, with restrictions on bait, hook, extent of fishing, times, size of capture.
Google Translate should be able to make sense of the full details.
