UK Financiers in Switzerland ..Getting bored...

Interesting Article in this months Economist on why British Financiers are heading back to London due to "Boring" Switzerland...
Financiers in Switzerland

Bored and frustrated traders are homesick for grimy, high-tax London

HARRY LIME, a racketeer played by Orson Welles in “The Third Man”, remarked that the only cultural legacy of centuries of stability in Switzerland was the cuckoo clock. The City types who have fled London for the quiet of Geneva or Zurich might see what he means.
Rising taxes, fears of tighter regulation and public hostility have persuaded some hedge funds and oil-trading firms to move to Switzerland. Other disgruntled financiers have threatened to follow. They might be bluffing.....

Yes, but why on earth would you move to Switzerland if you wanted to party. Without wishing to seem harsh, for those of us who moved here for the security, conservatism and outdoor life- goodbye and good riddance I say.

I just hope the Swiss are fortifying the borders in preparation for the dollar collapse.. I will volunteer for the militia if they need a hand

Clearly some half witted journo has been reading a dull rant on EF and served up some copy pasta.

Who's paying for this? Does anyone care that traders wives long for Primark?

Yes I know about 48 Journo`s , specialised in financial economics that login here each week just to gauge and measure the Status Quo.

<> the Economist appears WEEKLY
<> what did those finance chaps expect ?
<> their kids find it "hard to settle" in CH schools ? Does this mean that British kids are stupid ? Because kids from dozens of nationalities DO settle in CH schools. Or do those bank-folks simply find the international schools to be too expensive ?

Then some points in details.

They claim that Toilets cannot be flushed after 10pm without provoking strife, which is simply a lie

They claim that Taxis must be hailed from a rank, which is nonsense. You call a taxi by TELEPHONE

They claim to ""find it hard to meet people from outside the world of finance"" apparently not realising that the arrogance of finance people is appalling for non finance people

While many restaurants outside the centres are closed on Sundays, most restaurants in the city-centres are open on Sunday

That many costs in Geneva but also elsewhere in Switzerland are higher than in London was known for decades, except apparently to those UK finance folks and to the writers of TheEconomist !

Not everyone is homesick. Geneva suits people who are over 35, have families, are established in their careers and like skiing, hiking or sailing, says Dylan, who has settled there. Such pleasures are within easy reach of Geneva, which is one reason it is empty at weekends.

Overall, I might have expected shrewd businessmen to check up realities in a potential destination-country before moving !

I am no longer wondering about why the banking- and finance-crisis came about

Swiss kids have not to be that smart as they are used to this country. I spoke about all the other nationalities And I hope, your children if in "normal" schools do not find it sooooo bad after all !

Very simple: the main language in Zurich is German: the main language in Lugano is Italian. That's why you move to an English-speaking city like Geneva.
