My attitude towards the place goes up and down like a whores drawers !!!
albeit, I can appreciate the irony that a whore usually has her pants down while squeezing money out of her 'visitors', but you get the idea.

Sure Switzerland is not perfect, but it's a lot closer to perfect (for me) than anywhere else. Only 2.5 years into my stay so far, but I really don't know why I would want to leave...

So, according to our Kublers of this thread., we are in mourning? Tissue time.
I dunno, I just live here it could be anywhere: not that low crime*, low unemployment, low taxes... okay, a lot of low stuff, poor me, play any role in it. Hey wait, there are mountain highs here! Woo hoo! *my apart has been broken into and I have been attacked, I personally do nothing for that image, nor the stats. | This user would like to thank J.L-P for this useful post:

The stages only work for a situation you cannot change by yourself - like a giraffe in quicksand:
Being an expat in Switzerland is not being stuck in quicksand. If you really do feel miserable here, there are plenty of options where you could go on this planet depending on the reasons why you do not like it here. I do not feel depressed nor do I "accept" my situation blindly: I have been here for some years for good reasons, but recently feel pretty bored with the country - so I might just move on. Switzerland and I can stay good friends without loving each other... no hard feelings | This user would like to thank Treverus for this useful post:

I was somewhere else. Now I'm here. In the future I don't know where I will be.
I don't do "stages"; I just wait for the next thing to happen.

It is just not a place for my personnality. Nothing bad about it. I am not having something against the people, more about the culture (not my style), the environment (very boring to me) and the weather (no need to explain here....)
Every countries have their plus and minus. You just need to be happy with them and make sure it match your personality.

I think I'm in the complete and utter indifference category. Switzerland is a perfectly fine and acceptable place to live, as is the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Scandanavia etc.. If I were coming from the US, the Far East etc.. I would probably have a very different view, but as it is I don't spend too much time navel gazing on what it means to live here, how the Swiss tick etc..

I've been thinking about it the whole day, which box is my box.
I think Charles Dickens could describe my staying in Switzerland quite well. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way. I have my plan B. Ready, steady....not entirely ready to go though.
But few things have to change, and I'm giving it a chance to do so.
If I do end up leaving though, something tells me I will eventually return.
So my box will stay unticked for now.

I am in a terrible situation where I don't like it here but don't like it in London either...or anywhere else. Everywhere now seems foreign and nowhere like home. I'm in a taxi from Heathrow to NW London and looking out the window is the most depressing thing you can ever do. Everything is 1970s concrete with runs of shops with only 30% occupation and broken everything. Having said that you can walk into one of them and get an Indian lunch for £3 and it'll be excellent. What to do, what to do?

Can we also have a "Quite like it here, warts 'n'all. I understand the way the place works, and know just to play the required games to get things done with minimum effort and fuss. Am sad when I have to leave to head back to Airstrip One; however, am also sad when I have to leave there to come back here. Could do with some Proper Sailing waters, tho..." button, please. | The following 2 users would like to thank for this useful post:

The weather is great here, it will be sunny and more than 20C tomorrow!
What more do you want in late winter?
