Well, last time I checked, Lugano is still in Switzerland.

Crappy weather can be found in any country, and nice weather as well (within limits).

It's not Switzerland's fault if you live in the crappy-weather zone! :p

I've been here 9 years. As far as I'm concerned Switzerland is my home. I've no intention of returning to the UK to live. With all its quirks and annoyances, I like the place, and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Of course, I live in Basel, so it's only to be expected. :D

Apart from that, I enjoy the uncomfortable looks I get when I meet the people who forced me out of my job 6 years ago, and assumed I'd go crawling back to England.

Basel is not that bad weather wise, it is one of the warmer spot of Switzerland. It is the gray that kill me. If at least we had a lake, a mountain, a sea to look at....

Been here (Basel) three and a half years and am starting to get restless. It is a great place to study though, so maybe my itchy feet have more to do with my nomadic upbringing and less with Switzerland itself.

I have been here for ten years since arriving here for a three month position. I met my now swiss husband in the first week and have been here ever since. There are some days i daydream about leaving here and going back to the uk but that has only been since having a baby last year! I wouldent say i love switzerland but i dont hate it either

Why? Do you think it will help them adapt to life in Switzerland? Do you think it will reassure them that they can get used to it, in time? Do you think it will reassure them that they are not alone in feeling low at times, that others have been in their shoes and got over it?

Tell me who gains anything from your approach, apart from you, of course?

It's true that EF is in danger of becoming a backwater dominated by a small minority of expats who can't cut it/don't even want to try here and only want to bleat.

How many 1000 expats are out there working hard and loving the experience here??

I agree some need sympathy when going thriugh hard times. But when they cross that line to racially slurring the Swiss and spewing negativity and nastiness about the country, they forfeit my sympathy.

Ridiculing their self-pity is probably the best favor I can offer them.

You know, it's really easy for those of us who have been here a while, got used to the fact that Switzerland is a bit strange, settled in, built new lives, perhaps even acquired Swiss citizenship, to forget how difficult it is to be new to a country, or going through the 2-4 year 'itch'. Just because we didn't have the benefit of the English Forum to vent our frustrations and air our unhappiness doesn't mean that we should deny others the opportunity to do so.

I like living in Switzerland, especially since we moved away from the Gold Coast, but that doesn't mean that I should be unsympathetic to those who are still finding their feet here.

After all, if I get tired of it, I can always log off and look out of the window. What alternative have those who aren't enjoying their experience here?

It's funny how I managed to be sympathetic to my former Swiss bosses in England when they subjected me to six months of moaning, griping and rudeness about my people and country (not to mention my friends and family for not conforming to "Swiss" standards of good manners by stating their surnames at the start of each phone call). Having lived abroad myself, I understood that sometimes there is a need to let it all out.

Have you never been in a situation where you couldn't stand this country and its people?

If so, I'm delighted for you.

So you would like to think. Frankly, I didn't like how some Swiss members were offended recently, and yet many the offensiveness were defended. Lets see how they like having their self-pitying attitudes pointed out to them.

Those swiss members who were offended, did they came to defend me when I was offended about those who did bash my religion down? Did they stand up for me and ''my people'' and told those racists idiots to shut up?

Lads (and ladies): The poll options are the five stages of grief. You can't just go adding things like glee and euphoria in willy-nilly or it spoils the broth.

If you are not 'grieving' about living and working in Switzerland, then I reckon this poll is not for you. And that's OK. Not every poll has to have options to suit everybody.

Can we let it go though, please, before another lighthearted thread is spoiled?
