Looking at the scores, I'd say Europe doesn't like Switzerland.

I think it is partially the political voting. Additionally, the song was rubbish

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2011

Maybe you need an EF poll to choose the "real" winner. (Of the finalists, I liked Greece and Georgia, and do I admit it, Serbia.)

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2011

my friends and I have decided we are going to sing for Liechtenstein next year. We're going to dress up in big pointy hats with a monkey in a jetpack flying around the stage, and there will be an elephant paining a self portrait in the background, while we sing a punk-stylized "Mein Hut Hat Drei Ecke" in an indiscernable Alpine dialect. Actually we won't be singing it though, because we're going to find some back-up-singers/acrobats to sing for us while they do backflips across the stage.

Hey.... it may be corny, but it'll be better than Portugal's entry.

True DP, but the politics run super deep!

The only occasion this hasn't been the case is when it would be "super obvious" to the general public in the case of Katrina and the Waves as it would be stupid for countries not to vote for this due to chart possition and the perceived size of the artist as seen here:

Chart (1997) Peak
position
Austrian Singles Chart 2
Belgian (Flanders) Singles Chart 6
Belgian (Wallonia) Singles Chart 28
Dutch Top 40 4
Norwegian Singles Chart 2
Swedish Singles Chart 5
Swiss Singles Chart 26
UK Singles Chart 3

, however, that was a better Eurovision tune anyhow! LOL

Was pointed out by our great Graham Norton that this is one of the few countries that can actually afford to pay for next years show. Would have thought that Ireland, Greece and Spain may actually have paid not to win

Shame Switzerland was not well received though. Not a bad entry.

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2011

How funny to me it is to see so many people make other-than-nice general comments about the musical talent on the show.

While over-all, not all of the music is to my taste and some of the acts were "less good" than others, there were some acts that were quite entertaining and some with talented voices and musicians.

I quite liked Moldova, but then again, I liked Rock Lobster by the B-52s (and similarly "different" music) back in the day as well.

Russia did a passable job, I had a hard time with the singer though, he kept winking at the camera and that put me off a bit. Cheeky guys are fun - to an extent.

My own top five were Moldova, Iceland, Georgia, Switzerland and Finland. Very different types of music for each and while each had this or that that maybe not appeal to mainstream, I think they were fantastic in their own way.

Yes, claimed neutrality clearly contradicted by the result.

They play the neutrality card when it suits them. Ask Russia and Germany.

No, the song is NOT rubbish. It will be around here for quite some time. And may even capture ranks internationally. Commercially it possibly even is the WINNER of the contest. It in fact may be the starting point of both the singer and the composer.

I think that "Blick" will conclude that "Europe" HATES Switzerland ! The thing yesterday of course was a big support for the SVP unfortunately
The swiss song was good, the singer was ok. What was missing is some presence on the stage, some nice choregraphy and Extroverted attitude. Sometime I had the impression she was moving like a cow coming from the pasture.

Yes, the CH-show was, almost as usual, very very poor. Possibly a reason why CH got ahead better in the 50ies and 60ies when most people depended on the radio and even in the lates 60ies and early 70ies when it was just black and white !

I partitioned my 20 votes thusly:

10 to Serbia; 5 to Bosnia; 3 to Romania and 2 to Georgia. I hated the rest for various reasons (e.g. Jedward for obvious reasons).

well it depends if we talk about military or political neutrality...
Sweden are not less neutral than Switzerland so it doesn't matter...anyway, it definitely not the reason for coming in last...
