I'd be up for a Basel Eurovision drinking contest. Half-step modulation? Drink! They gaze into each others eyes? Drink! Ridiculous hat? Drink! Painfully out of tune singing? Drink!
That may be the only way to successfully survive Eurovision 2011: May 14.
Eurovision is coming!!! Who's your favorite, and what do you think of the Swiss entry? Will you pull for your native country (even if the singer is terrible)? Or will you pull for who you think is the best performer? Or do you just absolutely loathe this whole thing and really just want to be able to go somewhere without having to hear Lena Meyer-Landrut's screechy chicken lady voice singing "Satelite" on the muzak?
I became a fan ever since 2004 when I was first introduced by my Spanish friends. The trend for countries to vote for their neighbors is obvious, and the fact that fans cheer for countries rather than objectively picking a song they like is just strange to me.
Nevertheless, I love it. I took a break for a couple of years, but not by choice, rather because there is no Eurovision in the US. I was so happy with Molitva in 2007 and Fairytale in 2009, though. Lena... ugh... I've hated it since forever.
With Dana International coming back this year, Lena squeeling again for Germany ,
I *like* Lena. Her singing style is funky and cute and her voice is different. I agree that her voice isn't to everyone's taste but she's certainly good enough to have a following.
This year I'm routing for Bosnia. I find something very appealing about a Singer-Songwriter showing quality work.
The Swiss entry by Anna Rossinelli isn't "awful" per se, but I just don't think it can win. But...
I also like this song! (Much, much more my taste than last year's offering by Switzerland)
I suppose by my likes you can tell maybe that I grew up more influenced by my mother's taste in "folksy rock" / country & western music rather than the "east coast pop" that my father liked - well, other folks who were exposed to American music in the 60s and 70s probably could tell that anyhow.
They're sending Jedward... which is like a scaled-down doublemint version of Dustin.
You mean they are going to send these to xfactor/idol rejects?
They can not sing !
They are Irish yet keep talking with an American accent and one of them never shuts his mouth on pictures.. right if they are going, i am not watching ..

Hey! *shakes fist* Leave JedWard alone!
I like their cheeky chappie characters in spite of the fact they can't sing or dance.
I have a long term Irish friend whom I also thought was trying to fake an American accent when we first met. Apparently not and I'm now wondering if he comes from the same part of Ireland as the JedWard dynamic duo.

haha, classic Eurovison.
Last year a young cute girl who sings about love wins.
The year after 50% of the contest are young cute girls who sing about love.

Remember Ruslana?
Yes. I didn't like that song in 2004, I instead prefered Xandee from Belgium for some strange reason. Looking back though, I can see why Ruslana won.
My top 10 for this year are Bosnia, Serbia, Tukkey, Albania, Ukraine, Slovenia, Norway, Bulgaria, Georgia and Romania. Switzerland isn't on my list because I couldn't vote for her anyway. haha.
And why would ESC end in 1973? in 1974, ABBA won with Waterloo....

I'll be watching too on saturday. Be sure to start drinking before it starts, or else you won't survive. It can't get any trashier! Also fun: Afterwards you can start a bad taste music party with eurodance playlists from youtube. La Bouche, Haddaway, Culture Beat, 2 Unlimited, Wighfield...aaaahhh...memories!
I'll be watching Thursday (semi-final) and hopefully Saturday if Jedward make it through.
To be honest I was like a lot of the comment here think Jedward were talentless stuck up brats but to be honest I have been blown over for by their infectious enthusiasm over the past few weeks. They are, believe it or not, quite humorous to boot. Thier signing has also got much better recently. I hope they do well. The Eurovision is a bit of fun and these guys are fun.
