Well, the Japanese video was correct about slurping spaghetti after all! And by the way, chopsticks are also used to slurp and shovel in noodles. Also quite uncouth. And Chinese soup spoons are also used to slurp in soup.

So all you Brits are the odd ones out! You can go ahead and eat elegantly with the proper round soup spoons... while the rest of the world are enjoying our meals!
Actually, the culture in Japan is to slurp soup to integrate air into the soup for better flavour. However this is almost exclusively done by the older generation. The younger generation find this exceedingly embarrassing and uncouth. They use a spoon and sip gently.

You could say he 'wooden spooned' this thread, go on Nil please, remove that groan...

(he did open it again)
You are right... He did and I thank him for that. But to remove a groan? Come on! It is a groan... not a slap in the face!

When the newbies complain about groan what happen? They get more groans. 22_yards is a big and strong boy, it isn't a groan that will make him faint.

I got many groans from jokes, stalkers, trolls and non-explicable reasons... I survived... weakly, but I survived!

Oh, come on Big Boy! Since when a groan is stopping you? You let it open because of my groan? I am feeling so important right now!
Just to be clear, no, I didn't reopen the thread because of anyone's groan. On the contrary, getting groaned for carrying out mod duties would be more likely to firm my resolve against the groaner. Human nature.

No, I reopened the thread because clearly, it's vitally important to resolve this burning issue and there appear to be many people with nothing better to do in the first days of Spring, with 20-plus-degree blue-skies weather outside, than to debate the significance of the absence of occasional-use cutlery in Switzerland.

In a gallant, final attempt to restore sanity, I refer you again to the following:

Soup spoons (updated: now 11 pages)

Ooooh, look!

What is this outside of which you speak, and why doesn't my boss know about it?

'Tis a vast and bountiful land of mystery and enchantment, accessible to all, yet exploited by few.

What are you doing surfing the internets on your boss's time?

It's break time.

I get to choose between the internets and the company of teachers.

Which would you choose if they were your only options?

It is the mythical land of Zoo Rick, and can only be seen through The Wicked Switch's Scrying Glass

I bring tidings from the far land of St Fridolin!

In the local Migros, a mere two minutes' walk from our lodgings, we found these:

Probably had to reduce to clear as they need the shelf space - been there for years because the locals don't know what to do with them and therefore nobody buys them.

50% off because nobody in CH uses them (apart from a weird few on here [moi included]).

Edit oops post crossed Timow.

Mentioned this a few pages earlier. They are one of the many Esslöffel (tablespoon) designs; it so happens this particular one is rounder than the rest so we foreigners can regard it as a soup spoon. ALL cutlery are on offer!

Hmmmmmmm

The plan view certainly suggests "soup spoon", but only the side elevation will actually give us the true depth of the bowl, and therefore the possibility of a positive ID.

So, when you have a mo, can you pop back, take said side view, and post it up for us to deliver a final verdict... we'll be here. Waiting. Just waiting. For you. Waiting for you.
