Boy, this guy never gives up does he?
The Swiss don't eat/drink soup, they drink Suppe. They cannot even spell the word. No wonder they don't use the right spoon to eat/drink it with!

Wolli, be a good chap and go off and form a 'swissforum.ch' will you. There you can convince all your compatriots what soup spoons look like. You'll never, ever convince us.
People here do NOT "drink" the soup but EAT the soup. They simply use the spoons traditionally in use for that purpose. If Brits or Chinese have different spoons, alright, and right they may be, either of them.

Let's see it realistically. If a Brit goes into a shop on the continent and asks for "soup spoons" he/she will get offered the stuff I showed above, if the Brit in question however shows a British soup spoon, then the reaction may well be "ohh, THIS kind you mean, sure, here we have THAT sort".

Your statement that "they don't use the right spoon" however is supremacist and unacceptable. I have above shown the traditional Italian soup spoon, which reflects a long and profound tradition of soup consumption. That you ignore this reveals your lack of understanding for international traditions and is regrettable.

No, Mr Hofener. You yesterday in Rapperswil one soup spoon were shown.

The other one was a dessert spoon.
The second one had the same size as the first ! So, does this mean that the Brits eat desserts with a soup spoon

Mr Hofener: please look carefully at these two shapes.

Now tell me, can you see a difference between the two?

Whoa, Wolli! What got into you? Are you trying to wrest the SOHF crown from stephanienie?

And please don't say that your post was in jest. That would just start a whole 'nother thread along the lines of "Why can't the Swiss crack jokes?"

Sure, one is the oval form of a spoon and the other one the round form of a Christmas ball on a Christmas Tree !

No, people here drink the soup. People everywhere drink the soup because the soup everywhere is a liquid. The most efficient plan-view shape to drink liquids is the round - the shape of the espresso cup, the coffee cup, the tea cup, the mug, the bowl, the bucket and the oil drum. Wolli dearest, might you be arguing for the sake of it?

Why should I say it was in jest ? I however start to realize why the Brits so far MORE than the Swiss reject things like the Schengen and Dublin agreements. Even if "Schengen" says nothing about spoons.

And, btw., any British company throwing British soup spoons onto the market in counties like Switzerland and Italy at budget prices might have quite some success. There on the continent for ages only were round baking dishes available. It was in Debenhams London where I found square and rectangular ones, which I purchased for Mum and which were, along with other British kitchenware, clearly a success.

The marketing and selling abilities of the Brits, or rather the lack of it, is not my fault.

What about Brits realizing to have become just one of the larger countries on this continent ?

The Brits rejected Schengen because, with a name like that, it clearly just wasn't British. They rejected the Dublin agreement because, worse still, it was Irish.

No, you have the soup-bowl, and out of it you take the stuff into the soup-dishes

Soup spoons, other spoons and hallucinations

I think DB needs to bring one of his "soup" spoons to Rapperswill this afternoon, and I will bring the calipers.

Then we can make a definitive statement on the soupiness of his newly acquired spoons.

As Official Pontificator of Soupiness Of Spoons, I can confirm that:

  • the spoon proferred yesterday by DB as "a soup spoon" was measured to have indeed sufficient depth of bowl to be acceptable in polite company as a soup spoon, and was therefore ruled to be a Soup Spoon;
  • the spoon proferred yesterday by DB as "not a soup spoon" was measured to have insufficient depth of bowl to be acceptable in polite company as a soup spoon, and was therefore ruled to not be a Soup Spoon;
  • Wollishofener's insistence on having seen two soup spoons yesterday is testament (if indeed any were required) to the interesting effects of Steve at the Rappi Beer Factory's new XXA India pale ale.
    Unlike Red Bull, it won't give you wings - you may, however, end up seeing things like Wolli did

Not everyone who speaks English is British, Wolli me ol' China.
A) while I might understand British Xenophobia, the British anti-Irishness is not to be accepted
B) Britain is not on the Continent, but it has become simply a "European country" and might earlier or later come to terms with realities. Edward Heath told you so, but was punished for that by losing the elections
C) all countries in Europe with English as one of the official languages (Ireland, Malta and Cyprus) have integrated into Europe far more than the U.K. ! China neither is English speaking nor in Europe, BUT has quite different, and in fact very nice spoons !
