Crunchie bars. We devoured a whole stack them whilst in the UK recently. My kids now have withdrawal symptoms.

For what it's worth, though, I think Europeans who use chopsticks where there are knives and forks available are pretentious knobheads.
Have you ever tried eating food with a fork and then switching to chopsticks (or vice versa)?
There's a notable difference in the taste of the food based on the utensil used (or maybe I'm just a supertaster... ). I only "discovered" this by accident, with a fork giving the food a slightly metalic taste.
As an aside, it is part of the fun/experience.
As another aside, to keep (vaguely) on topic, the Chinese have soup spoons. | Quote: | | | | | Crunchie bars. We devoured a whole stack them whilst in the UK recently. My kids now have withdrawal symptoms. | | | | | Available over the bord... damn. That doesn't count, doesnt it.

OK... you at the back of the class, stick to your fingers and try not to bite them, eh? Just image what damage you might do with a knife and fork... | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | Warning - that link has a virus... (well my antivirus notification popped up when I went to the page...)

Ah the mod reopened this! It allows me to post a correction. I mentioned about a scene from Tampopo about eating etiquette and here it is. I got it wrong though about the chopsticks (memory degrading). But it is still a very funny scene and appropriately takes the Mickey out of food culture.
And sorry for digression. Back to soup spoons, carry on.

Back on topic: Serving spoons.
You can't get these as parts of sets in Switzerland (along with the soup spoons).
You only seem to be able to buy plastic ones as separate items.
We ended up buying some in Germany.
Isn't this a really dull thread? |

To give the thread any useful information: If you are looking at buying a larger set of good quality table or silverware, you know it is quite an investment. If you happen to be in the area - or as a weekend tour, they open on Sundays! - let me introduce you to Mettlach. Home of VB and the outlet had our design - which we bought at CH list price - at 70% discount... from the already lower EUR price... that would have been more savings than the petrol by far...

One's butler just reminded one of the time that a certain dinner guest held their soup spoon in one hand whilst holding their dinner roll in the other!
Needless to say, one was mortified at the time - since then, however, we have often laughed at the guest's lack of manners, and still occasionally joke about inviting them back for more entertainment.
Of course, one would never dream of actually inviting again someone so clearly ill-equipped for social interaction... | The following 2 users would like to thank for this useful post:

The trouble with silver or silver-plated soup spoons is that they need a lot of care as they tarnish easily and probably shouldn't go in the dishwasher |

The shock spoilt my dinner completely.
