We had a bike stolen from the garage of our holiday apartment, for which we had the receipt
Thank you, Klostersgirl, but we don't have the receipt anymore (just like the OP). Tried ringing the store we bought the bike from over a year ago to ask for a possible copy, but they had no means of issuing one. So in our case, we couldn't even file a claim. Now the new bike has its vignette and the receipt nailed to the wall, so in case smth happens (as bikes here go missing every now and then, new and old, chained or not...), the proof of purchase is at hand.

Find the Insurance number and just call them. You never know.

Surely you can't be expected to obtain a receipt on a second hand bike under 500CHF.

Find your policy number so they have the specifics on your cover and they will tell you exactly what you should do.

Besides, they are the only people who know exactly what you should do (on how to claim on your policy).
