Look at how the Swiss vote and you'll see that the majority of the voting Swiss have indeed had enough of illegal immigrants.

Most of you are expats so you have a different attitude than the locals. However, it's the locals who vote and decide Switzerland's future.

Just wanted to bring everyone back to reality.
No one here is saying that the girl and her family should stay, I for one am just sympathising with the OP's daughter because her best friend has been deported. It's a sad story for both girls which is what the OP wanted to say.

The groanee is getting his groans because he can't see this and is coming across as a insensetive trolling prat.

What country is happy about illegal immigrants? Is there any point in saying this??

The point is that deportation is a cruel thing for a family and their friends to go through and makes the country deporting seem heartless. However, where and when does one make an exception? Where should the line be drawn?

I understand the OP but I understand Monty as well. Both sides should be able to speak their mind on this thread.

Re: "My best friend just got deported"

To be fair, NotAllThere never said that the family or the girl should be allowed to stay - just that it's a shame that the girls friendships have been broken based on factors outside of her control.

All the rest of it is fairly typical left wing / right wing internet histrionics ranging from "let them all in" to "send the buggers back" and all the shades of grey between.

Speculation on why they were deported, discussion of immigration policies, and the nationality or circumstances of the persons so deported are just some of the topics that remain totally irrelevant to the original post. Regardless of the outcome of such debates, it remains a shame for the girl involved who has been dragged away from her mates.

Sorry to make it more clear: If their girl went to school - they were most likely not illegal immigrants! Illegal immigrants hide, you know...

1. They could have been refugees seeking asylum which was rejected. Seeking asylum is not illegal, everyone has the right to ask for it.

2. They could have been totally normal non-EU people living here getting thrown out based on many work permit related issues. I posted many times than a guy from my company was thrown out back to Vietnam within few weeks, while being well integrated, speaking better German than most of the people here, paying taxes and having a baby at home. The canton simply did not prolong his permit and said "sorry, quota is full".
So: The family could have easily come here to work and later on the migration office finds that his position could have been filled with Swiss/EU candidates and that the employer did not follow the law to look for local candidates and the like. The point is that Switzerland is very quick at deporting people...

I understand your point, grumpy, and do not like trolls either but in this case, Monty has the same attitude as 3/4 of the population in my village.

And if Monty started a thread saying that he believes the Swiss have the right policy in deporting Kosovan illegal immigrants I would probably agree with him, as would most here.

But let him say that on that thread instead of trolling and derailing this thread.

Just as you are rightfully stating that the average expat sees things differently would it be nice if you'd acknowledge that Switzerland is on average not as backward as a village in Schwyz.

(And even within Schwyz will you find massive differences)

The point is that Monty is missing the topic by a mile just giving us the average SVP arguments on a specific case. We have nearly no information on it to make a somewhat sensible discussion except of "I am sorry for your daughter, OP". But instead we simply assume the worst that they are some leeching fake refugees who came here to live on others hard earned taxes...

Yes, the authorities have a job to do and the parents messed up, but in these sorts of situations anywhere, it's the children that always suffer the most IMHO.

Poor child. I hope she will be okay...
Most of us on this forum left our home countries to come here. Many brought kids with them. I changed country as a kid. I got over it. Kids adapt more quickly than most adults. I don't doubt in the least that she'll get over it and that having spent some time in a foreign country may even have widened her horizons.

I think so as well. But to be honest do some expats here seem to get more narrow minded after living in Switzerland...

I would like to think so, but being forced to another country is deeply traumatic for a young girl. I happen to be dealing with this same issue right now.
It's heartbreaking to all concerned.

Looking at how the Swiss vote, I have a hard time acknowledging what you are asking. However, I think (mind you, it's an assumption only) that most Swiss would be more sympathetic than many villages in Canton Schwyz and Appenzell.

Or maybe it's just the EF that attracts narrow minded folks and gives them a platform for mud slinging?
