| | "My best friend just got deported"
Not mine - but that of a classmate of my daughter's. (Swiss school)
There was a girl in their class, who started at the school six months ago. She was quite a popular lass. Today, the class teacher informed the class (ages 13-14) that the girl and her family had been deported. They're all very upset - my daughter was in tears.
It seems that the family had been in Germany, then came to Switzerland. Somehow, the German authorities found out that the family were here, and informed the Swiss, who then acted to deport them back to Germany, from where, it seems, they'll be deported to Kosovo. Obviously there were irregularities.
I don't know the ins and outs. But it's clear that this poor kid, who is innocent of any wrong-doing is the one who loses out. And her friends. It's all very sad.
Edit: Ins and outs detailed here.
Edit2: Now with happy ending!

One is left to wonder how they avoided the repeated need to show permits when registering for accommodation and schooling etc...

I suspect it is something like they were trying for asylum here and neglected to inform the Swiss they'd been rejected from Germany. I.e. they had permits, but obtained with incomplete/false information.

What are the repercussions for the family?
I mean with the flat, and bills and stuff?
Luckily for people here(Europe) you don't have to cross the desert, jump a fence or swim in a river with an empty water gallon as a floatation device if you want to try again. :S

Similar happened here a few years back, to a Kosovan/Albanian family in an appt. house across the street from us - 3 kids, I think, at my daughters school.
Apparently one day they just didn't turn up for school - it transpired (only briefly and slowly came out into the open - but never learnt all the details) that the Police/Immigration came in the night (early hours) and whisked them all away, very Gestapo-like.
They weren't living there for long, but I think the appt. and most of the possessions were being funded/subsidised by the Red Cross or other philanthropic NGO.

Territory, its a curse. It makes me a bit angry to think theres a lot of people who makes no crime, but is treated like a criminal when trying to have a better life just because was born "in the wrong country"

If you look really carefully - once you've taken your head from the dark place you obviously keep it - you'll see that I've said nothing about Kosovans being allowed to move to Switzerland en masse, nor whether immigration controls are good things or not.

We simply cannot have it both ways.
There are too many foreign children in my child's class at school and she is not making the progress she should.
We should be nice to folk who come over here to look for a job and let them live off our taxes until they find one.
I cannot find a flat as a hundred people apply for each one I see.
I'll happily pay higher sickness benefit premiums so that newcomers with small children can have free health care.
I feel scared when I walk home in the dark late at night as there are so many groups of teenagers wandering about and I cannot understand what they are saying.
I cannot find a job as there are too many applicants.
It doesn't feel like Switzerland any more as in the train I only hear foregin languages.
I know that this child came here illegally but she's not doing anyone any harm.

a) they don't expect state handouts
b) they behave themselves
and
c) the exact same rights are provided reciprocally to people of different countries
Since after all it is pure accident where we are born and it a fundamental right to travel and live elsewhere - as long as you do not expect someone else to foot the bill.
Switzerland actually fares very well in this regard - with I think the third highest proportion of immigrants in the population of any OECD country. Still doesn't help the poor girl in the OP though.

How is going back to Kosovo such a bad thing if they someone is originally from there?
