where to buy Scented Geraniums

Hello all!
I really would like to buy a rose scented geranium! Anybody know where I can find one in Zurich?

Thank you!

Re: where to buy Scented Geraniums

I assume you are talking about the plant (Pelargonium graveolens) rather than the oil?

Last year I bought several scented geraniums (rose, citrus, apple) at Meier, a huge garden center in Dürnten (new location, used to be Tann-Ruti):

http://www.meier-ag.ch/cms/gartencenter/index.php

I was there last week, but didn't see any - but then, I wasn't looking for them either. Call first to see if they have them this year - it may be to early yet.

If Meier is too far (Dürnten is in sort of the end of the Zürich Oberland), in years past I've also seen scented geraniums at several large-ish garden centers, even at the Coop B/H. Hit-or-miss at Coop, however. Any local garden center should be able to order the plants for you.

Re: where to buy Scented Geraniums

thank you meloncollie!!!
(and yes, i did mean the plant itself not the oil)

by the way, I know quite a bit about reproducing geraniums from cuttings, so if you still have the ones you bought I would be more than happy to multiply and repot them for you at the nominal cost of taking one of the offspring for myself! Let me know if this would interest you and we can arrange a place for you to drop off and pick up your plants!

Re: where to buy Scented Geraniums

I've been trying to track some scented geraniums for a while now with no success - none of my local florists seem to sell these. Has anyone seen any recently - preferably in the Suisse romande region? I'd be most grateful for any tips!

You're a bit late for this year, they bloom from may thru september. I would suggest you wait until next spring.

As Urs notes, it is probably a bit late for this year, at least for outside. Can't help with your region, but the term in German is "duftgeranien".

My favourite (almost local) garden center is:

They're called geranium or pelargonium odorant or parfumé in French if that helps.
They still had some lemon scented ones in the garden centre near me a couple if weeks ago when I was there.

Am I the only one who misread the title as "Where to buy scented craniums?"

Re: where to buy Scented Geraniums

Thanks all, I don't mind so much about flowering as I was hoping to use some of the leaves for cooking...so still trying to track them down - but Zurich way is a bit too far
BElgianmum, what was the name of garden centre you were referring to?

It was Blumenmarkt Dietrich in Gampelen.

syringa-pflanzen.de has a beginner bundle for you, 8 Pelargonia with different scents for €40.-(no idea about the shipping and custom regulations). According to them, the leaves can be conserved with silicagel. Just like Geraniums the plants survive winter if taken care of reasonably well.
