1. Its too business like and a bit too boisterous and not subtle, sweet and personal. Its like something you hand out to anyone and everyone and not just that special someone. Nothing beats the excitement of asking around for a piece of paper and pen to give out your contact details just because you have met someone you would want to stay in touch with, even though you will soon find some secluded corner and pull out one of the ready made slips with your number pre-written on it. But you have to make it look like you dont carry those all the time on you, rite?
Sure, paper and pen is very sweet. But if you are forgetting the time and the train has stopped on one's stop, grabbing a card is perhaps more casual than missing the stop because s/he couldn't find a pen...?

Would you trust someone who cannot miss his/her stop for you?
You are so un-romanticsche and un-adventerische... What happened to "I'll follow you to the other end of the world till the end of times..." and all that?!

Trust me: Nothing flattens a girl more than when you say with s smug smile 'Dont worry about it" when she says "Is that not yoru stop/train?"

Stalker!
Its a stalker only if the girl doesnt fancy the guy, otherwise its puppy love. "Hes so cute, he follows me around wherever I go." "I know, I know its boring but I have this badboy on the side. Hes a total a-hole and so wrong but... feels so right!"

You're right about the first part, wrong about the second part.

So I don't know which year it was when you tried to pick up a girl the last time, but speaking for myself, as a very un-romantic woman, if a guy I've never meet before would use an old cheeky line like "Sorry Im new in town, can you please tell me where you live" I wouldn't even be able to fake a smile back

That's very sweet.

Two things;
1. Get business cards and don't be scared to hand them out the next time. Any girl would be flattered. She may be married, she may be single. She may call, she may not call - but in any cases, she'd for sure be flattered and would be smiling for the rest of the day (possibly posing on this thread http://www.englishforum.ch/general-o...d-because.html )
2. Don't wonder about the if's for 7 years and then start to look for her, like this guy. That's kinda creepy and not flattering at all.
I like to feel unique ... If I were single and a guy just hand me over a bussiness card I'd feel like the 30th girl with his card and definetly never call being scare of this phone conversation:
Me-Hi, its me, the girl from the train.
He-Which route?, what time?, are you brunette, blond..?...(you get the point)
Me-

yes right.... one has to be original on how to give the business card.
For example tell her/him: I'll give you an origami as gift (be careful not to have a slip of tongue and say origasmi).

one of my business coaches always told me "carry your business card everywhere: on the ski slopes, at the beach, in the sauna. opportunities arise everywhere, and you need to be ready to seize them". good advice and applies equally to other life situations

so sad that internet archive doesn't have www.6december2002.com cached. some random guy made a webpage for a missed connection. that's got to be worth seeing.
google: 6 december 2002 Mehmet, does the job for you, he added zurich to the web address.

We are all unique and special lotus flowers.
But you're right, a little creativity and imagination always helps. But in some circumstances a card might come in handy...

If its a She telling a He, i bet it will be a 100% success rate... Unless the bussiness card has a rate too.

Ok, how about "Do you have a map, as I am so lost in your eyes" or "I lost my phone number, can I borrow yours?" - Will that help with faking a smile?

BTW, I dont pick up girls!!! Im not like that!! Gosh whats wrong with you?!

If she had got off at his stop then, he should'nt be worrying about passing contact details, but should be looking for a room.

Geez... Did you even go to school?

Dear Paulie

If she captured your heart for those very brief passing seconds then...please take the same train next week! See if fate will cross your path....is she is not there you still have plenty of well wishes here on the forum to support you! Chances are you will meet another lovely girl similiar to how she looked like...maybe there is one you already have met, at your workplace, a friend? sometimes we have to really open our eyes as people can shut down in the manic of living day to day!

But i really hope that you keep us all informed when someone wonderful captures your heart again...remember beauty is skin deep!
