Beautiful girl on train too scared to ask her out

I'm slightly annoyed today. I was catching a train home from Zurich and a lovely blonde was sat opposite me and began talking to me in German. I explained I was merely a poor Englishman with an ability to understand her only if she spoke slowly.

She seemed to find this amusing (in a sort of 'you're cute' kinda way). I then spent the rest of the journey trying to figure out how to ask if she was single and fancied a drink.

Alas, before I'd properly formed the verbs and tenses in my tiny brain, my stop had arrived and I had to get off. All I could managed was a 'Tschuss', which was very warmly received with a smile and returned farewell. Complete with a longing look from said girl out of the train window.

I've since been kicking myself. Perhaps she would have forgiven a misplaced verb or two...

Ahhh well. It put a smile on my face. Thanks for listening!

Sucks!
She would have definitely forgiven a misplaced verb or two. Well, you never know what the future brings ;)

Oh dear happens to the best of us eh?

A similar thing happened to me a few years back in my single days, but this time it was the opposite. I asked her in German to help me with my ticket at the machine then I said thanks and walked off.

Just so happened that we were on the same train and she came and sat by me and we chatted for a long time and I'm sure there was a twinkle in her eye. But at the end we just said cheerio and good luck. It's easier these days with facebook but I often wonder how she is.

If she fancies you, she'll be in the same carriage again...

Ahh, that is so sweet. However, if it is meant to be then your paths will probably cross again.

Misplaced verbs are fine, as long as they're misplaced in the right place. ;)

I think it was Mark Twain who wrote, ""Life is too short to learn german, you can learn english in 30 days, french in 30 months, but it takes 30 years to learn german."

So you better try to live with making some mistakes, otherwise, by the time you get your grammar right, you'll be too old for that kind of chicks (unless you are very wealthy and look like you are going to kick the bucket pretty soon, that is).

Lot of girls love shy guys. I met my husband on the forest, i was walking with a friend and he was walking his dogs with his son, when we met he didnt made any move, altough it was pretty obvious that we kind of clicked. Then 2 weeks past before we ran into eachother again, he again didnt ask for my number but he asked my walking shcedule in the forest I said the schedule, but for some reason for other 2 weeks i couldnt go on that time. One day I get to the forest and I find him sitting with a postal on his hands and told me "I've come everyday at that time for 2 weeks (totally swiss my hubby) and never find you, today i've been waiting 2 hours to find you, here is my number, if you also like me, please call me and we go out." Needles to say, I called hahaha:D

Keep a copy of this on your iPod/MP3, to play next time - I'm sure she'll get your drift, even if French isn't her first language.

The next time you see her, you should act aloof and hard-to-get. The girls do that all time and it totally works. :D

isn't there a section in 20minuten where people post messages like: "saw you in the train saturday, you smiled etc. was to shy to ask you etc... send me SMS to ....:"
I remember seeing that but don't know if service still available.

My German isn't perfect and my German bf doesn't care when I make mistakes, but rather finds them cute :P.

Next time go for it :).

The whole story reminds me of Brief Encounter :)

It reminds me of the "Missed Connections" section of Craigslist.

Nice story. thanks.

Was it Woody Allen who said "that the only love that lasts is unrequited love"?

i had a similar experience in london a while back. the problem was that we were chatting so much i didn't realise i'd got to my stop and had to get off the tube to make the train connection.

i had a 2 second freeze while i weighed up the exchange numbers/catch train decision and ended up catching the train.

one of my business coaches always told me "carry your business card everywhere: on the ski slopes, at the beach, in the sauna. opportunities arise everywhere, and you need to be ready to seize them". good advice and applies equally to other life situations ;)
