Am I paranoid or what?

Hello guys!

Very quickly: I changed house and State for 4 times during the last 5 years.

Now I live near Lucern by knowing it won't be the last stage of my life.
The problem is that I have hobbies or I would like to buy things to practice them, but I know that once I will move again I won't be able to carry them with me. So I always live with the mindset of waiting until I will stop being a "nomad".

What do you think? Am I crazy?

Hi Mattverick, no you are not crazy, and I can quite sympathise with your position, having made as many moves myself.

However, depending on what your hobbies are (?!), you may we be able to sell your hobby paraphernalia on here when the time comes for you to move on - there is a very active marketplace on EF.

It depends on how passionate you are about your hobby and how attached you get to the equipment/instrument. It can always be sold or shipped. And when will you ever really settle down? No one can predict the curveballs that life throws at you.

I personally prefer to roll with the punches and havent let any future plans deter me from commiting to a 315kg instrument that will be a bitch to ship and rather difficult to find a new home for. But thats just me, I dont care. What matters is the now, and the endless hours of pleasure I get from it.

Re: Am I paranoid or what?

You're not paranoid, maybe a mild case of OCD, and common sensical thinking.

I understand how you feel, as I have not stayed in one place for long either and have postponed so many things I wanted to do and buy for the time when I settle down, to my regret as it has not happened till now. Now I have a feeling that I might be a "nomad" for the most of my life. Some of us are destined to be like that.

My advise would be to do or buy whatever you feel like at any given time, as your life and age/time will not wait for you to settle down. Its only things and your life does not revolve around things but the other way around.

I have so much stuff from my childhood and accumulated over the years packed away in boxes, and its such a pain to drag them from one store room to another. I cannot let go things and I cannot see myself settling down in one place either

I totally agree, I also prefer to enjpy the present without caring too much for the future even if the future oriented mindset became part of my life.

My hobbies range from biking, canoeing, paragliding. In short, outdoor activities. And I would really love to have my own equiment instead of renting it everytime I want to paddle, fly or whatever it is.

The rest of us seem to be able to cart this sort of gear around without too much difficulty. Have you heard of shipping?

I know that, but you know, when you pack your stuff every 13/14 months than also carting those things become quite expensive and not always easy.

PS: I definitely love moving around the world, but I also feel the life passing by very quickly even if I am only 25.

PS: you guys are amazing with you answers!

You can easily find new homes for bikes - good ones that are reasonably priced. EFers are a bunch of savvy buyers and do their homework.

I'd enjoy it while you can. I'm not saying it's less enjoyable when you get older, it's just different.

For one of your hobbies .....

...... I'll huff .... and I'll puff ..... and I'll blow .......

your canoe up.

Inflatable canoes have come on in leaps and bounds, since I bought mine in the US over 15yrs ago - I don't mean just the leisure types.
Depending on your exact requirement, it should be possible to fit it into a travel bag or backpack, for travelling.
