Imagine what the Austrians must have thought when the Wehrmacht paraded there to celebrate and there is a Chinese guy commanding a Nazi tank... | | | | | Interesting indeed. BUT, if reading the story, it is clear to me that there were NO Austrians around when he commanded those tanks ...., only Reichs-Deutsche |

Wolli's phrasing of his sentence came across as Singapore fell due to that naval battle which isnt accurate. We only fell in 1942. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Singapore | The following 2 users would like to thank summerrain for this useful post: | |

It ran for 13 seasons essentially in North American. Essentially about the generic amercian family and neighborhood in Texas.
It's very slow to get into, but once you see how deep the characters are developed and the commentary on 'life in america', the show is absolutely brilliant. | | | | | But the whole point of that show was to show that it's not "life in America" -- it's a caricature of life in Texas.
Also, I love that show. That's a great scene. That and any time Peggy tries to speak her "Spanish":

True, only Hongkong, Malaya and the Philippines got attacked then, but NOT Singapore. This of course makes it clear why there are differences about those maps in regard to Singapore

| | Re: anyone did not know that Hong Kong is not in Japan? =P | Quote: | | | | | So, few days ago in Hardbrücke Bahnhof.. a guy who was wearing a London T-shirt was asking me in a non-English-speaker accent about was the Post still open at that time (around 8PM..). I answered.
and he asked me the almost one of the most boring question to try getting a conversation start -----> 'where are you from?'
I answered, 'Hong Kong.'
He said to me, 'OWuuwooO!!! Kon ni chi wa!!!'
I said to him, 'hm, actually i speak Vietnamese '
but he seemed so serious and said to me, 'ohhh!!im so sorry!! im really sorry!! so.. you guys speak Vietnamese in Japan?'
Apparently he was like, convinced that Hong Kong IS IN Japan .... im curious, why so? there must be one reason or more,
just that its not the first 1,2,3,4,5 times I got this "Hong Kong is in Japan" thing..
there was other people said something like 'oh hongkong, cool!! the capital of Japan' , and 'so you speak japanese?' , or sth like, 'oh~i love Japan !!'
oh yeh, i do speak some japanese, but its not related to anything about where do i come from ..... P.S. .. I do not speak Vietnamese
C. | | | | | I am asian, and one time a guy approached and greeted me ''Konnichiwa''.
I don't even look like japanese.
But hey, I'm getting used to it! haha

i was in primary school in ontario, canada, when i was about twelve. one day the prinicipal asked me to her office to translate a letter from sweden (i'm swiss, for the record). in the end, i had to point out the difference on the worldmap behind her desk. which was quite a task, because switzerland was the size of a nickle. her final remark was something like: "you know, in northamerica we all understand each other, from alaska to florida".
needless to say, the greater meaning of that sentence only came to me some years later.
oh the memories.
