Oh, Lugano!

Hi!
Who lives in Lugano? Or may be in canton Ticino?
Is it difficult to find work there? And is it true that the salaries there are not so high as in the other parts of Switzerland?
Is life there more expensive or not??
Thanks

I do not live in Lugano or anywhere else in Ticino. To find work may be not too easy but is not hopeless. The salaries are possibly lower than in Zürich but not lower than in many rural areas of the country. Life is less expensive than in Zürich but more expensive than in remote rural areas in other parts. And Lugano may not be Las Vegas, BUT it is a most charming and beautiful city, in a quite agreeable climate.

I've heard the unemployment rate here is rather high, but if you are a professional it's likely you'll fare better than if you were in one of those job sectors that tend to be dominated by frontalieri (you know, those people the SVP don't like but can't keep themselves from hiring....)
Based on what I see as a livable salary in Zurich and on my years of experience in my field, I'd say that salaries here are definitely lower than there but, comparatively speaking, I'm pretty well off. If I were in Zurich, I'm guessing I might have a fair bit less money for trips/fun/my wife's school.

Speaking of Las Vegas, there is a rather large Italian casino across the lake I hear...

Correction: I was referring to the Casino di Campeone which is in the Italian enclave of Campeone d'Italia on the other side of Lake Lugano from Lugano itself. But there is another smaller casino in Lugano itself.

As well as a large one in Mendrisio.
