Random Searches?

In Sunny Switzerland, can the police search you, anywhere and anytime without due process, and a proper reasonable suspicion?

If so, can you give me the Act or Legislation states it can?

Many Thanks,

Dr. K

Re: Random Searches?

So, basically what is the answer? I've read what it says on the governmental website. And I do know that Cantonal Laws have the decision and that Switzerland is a confederation, not a federation.

English should be an official language of Switzerland, it's already on their passports.

Thanks, I'll have a look.

Are Genéva's laws different to Zurich? if so, how different?

The Cantonal websites for Zurich and Geneva will tell you everything you need to know.

So. Are you writing a book, or what?

Re: Random Searches?

With 26 cantons, one might get possibly up to 26 variations on the same laws in CH. Each Canton is supreme, like a mini state. Only by comparing would one know to what degree it differs - something I'd rather not do presently.

Re: Random Searches?

For example; if my client was walking down the road en-route to a summer fair, and was searched without reason or due process by a security guard authorized by the authorities and/or police would that be legal in the canton of Zurich, Bern and Geneva?

Re: Random Searches?

Well, I do know that this is legal in the United Kingdom, but not in the United States even with the patriot act.

Maybe you could give your solicitor(s) a call for me?

yes completely legal. and if you protested you could be subject to a kicking as well, and that would be legal as well.

If what you're saying is true, that is against the European Human Rights convention.
