Where to buy Amazon Kindle in Zurich

Friends,
I want to buy a Kindle 3.
I see digitec is an option, but they don't have any display pieces - not the one near Hardbrucke
Any idea where I can have a look at ebook readers and compare before I buy?

Also, I'm looking for its accessory 'Amazon Kindle 3 Lighted Leather Cover' - this is not to be found in Digitec

Any pointers to shops with kindle demo pieces and accessories would help.

Thanks in advance

Cheers,
Srini

Re: Where to buy Amazon Kindle in Zurich

Orell Fusilli English book shop had some ebook readers in the basement level, can't remember the brand though.

I saw some Sony ones in OF & they were rubbish.

My mother has an Amazon one & I was a bit sceptical before I had a go, but have to admit, they are very good.

Buy it direct from Amazon.com, delivery is a couple of days and they take care of all the customs charges so 'what you see is what you pay'.

Re: Where to buy Amazon Kindle in Zurich

There are very few retail outlets for the Kindle.
I bought mine from John Lewis/Peter Jones in London, which is the only store in London where they are legally sold. Don't know about illegal ones!
In fact Amazon themselves have a very speedy delivery service.
I had trouble with my 'un-lighted' leather cover and they replaced it free-of-charge by courier, even though I'd bought it in London.
They replaced it with one with a light too, even though it costs more.
Do be careful to get the 'lighted' leather cover as Amazon had a problem with the leather covers without a light. The prongs were apparently causing a problem, which is why they replaced mine free of charge.

I've seen them in Dixons Duty Free at the airport.

I echo this, they also have a great returns policy. Mine stopped working at 10 months , and they sent me a new one, no questions asked. All books I have bought will automatically be synced to the replacement.

Yes, this the best way, I had ordered Kindle+black leather cover directly from Amazon US site, received them in just 2 days.
Also saved a few Swissies compared with digitec price.

A general question about battery life:

I use my Kindle 2 about one hours each day, and the battery (without the poofy light and with the on-line access turned off) lasts about two weeks. Others have told me the battery lasts about a month.

Experiences?

Re: Where to buy Amazon Kindle in Zurich

thanks all.. I have placed an order with digitec directly - no way to have a look before buying. Eagerly awaiting confirmation from SMS.
Will share my experience once I receive it

Cheers,

Re: Where to buy Amazon Kindle in Zurich

thanks, but German amazon site does not allow shipment to Switzerland.. they have some region restrictions. amazon.com does work, though.

But I bought it from digitec.. got in in 2 days, with a free charger (compatible with swiss pins)

loving this gadget..

Now exploring features to convert my pdfs to kindle format without sending mail to amazon

Re: Where to buy Amazon Kindle in Zurich

i've had two kindles, both of them are now broken (apparently you need to charge them at a regular basis, if you don't the screen gets some kind of distortion). Recently I picked up an ipad 1 for 429 CHF, never been happier. With the Kindle-app I can read the books I bought from Amazon and do a lot of other stuff, i'm much more satisfied with it than i ever was with the kindles (even before they broke).

My experience echoes yours. But I've discovered that using it for a long stretch (eg reading from it all day on a Sunday and not getting back to it till the following weekend) seems to use less battery than turning it on for a while each day. That way, it can easily last a month.

My only problem is buying far more books than I will ever be able to read.

I try to only buy 4 or 5 at a time, and then read them before buying more.

Re: Where to buy Amazon Kindle in Zurich

yeah @globe109 I too was in a dilema between Kindle and iPad.
But I think iPad's backlight would strain my eyes, considering the case with reading from my laptop.. so atlast decided on Kindle.

Now I belive Kindle and iPad should not be compared. They serve different purposes

Re: Where to buy Amazon Kindle in Zurich

I think in my opinion the best place is amazon.com where you can get your accessories as a bundle for a slightly cheaper price. Nothing like buying a product directly from the vendor.
