Re: attacked by a small elderly woman

It must be the season of weirdness, as some bloke hit me this evening as I was walking up the ramp at the station to get my train. It didn't hurt - he just caught my arm - but it was a bit odd, and clearly deliberate (we weren't crossing each other's paths, and there was a bit of room between us).

I turned round to see what he was up to, and saw some other people looking at him, so he must have had a pop at a few of them, too.

Maybe there's a fohn coming?

All very strange and, at the risk of repeating myself, this kind of thing happened to me so seldom in all my years in London. And, if it did, the other person was usually extremely quick to apologise.

Do you want to borrow my granny costume? You can give it back to this evil society, honestly, they never hit back!

amen to that!

Rush hour on the tube and I've never been bumped into or shoved around! On the odd occasion that I've been, they are highly apologetic as if they've just pushed me onto the ground!

On the flip side of the coin - and I really hate to generalise, but I've noticed that when I apologise to people here after I've accidentally bumped into them, all I get in return is a stony faced expression - every single time. Londoners on the other hand, smile and say: "its ok."

C*ws.

Re: attacked by a small elderly woman

Unlucky tram-lurch on the way home just as I was planting my backside on a seat. If my hands hadn't landed on the shoulders of the guy sitting opposite, my face would have ended up in his crotch.

Wonder if he's gone home tonight wondering if he's been attacked or been made a pass at..?

Re: attacked by a small elderly woman

3 years in Basel made me believe it was normal to be bump into on a daily basis....

And all of a sudden, I am surprise to have been bump free since this past 2 weeks.... Not a single time...

I'll begin to take offense and think it is something about me!

And people giving me their seat.... I am on a different planet! It is wonderful how someone can be so thankful of small little things in life you have been deprived of.

Re: attacked by a small elderly woman

A couple of years ago I was cross country skiing and not being the best fell over . I was having real problems trying to get up as the skis are long and my boots were still attached.
This elderly lady ( she was well in her late 70s or possibly 80s) came along the track , came up to me and started poking me with her ski pole screaming at me to get up. She could see I was having problems but continued to jab me with the spiked end - it really hurt....
In the end I had to roll over into the side into a drift
- sweet old ladies - they don't exist on the slopes

Maybe, just maybe, the old lady concerned couldn't see very well, couldn't hear very well and didn't speak German either.

Re: attacked by a small elderly woman

first time i was bumped on tram, i went up to the fool, pulled him around and told him what an diot he was (he sure wasnt expecting this "human" reaction). the second time another fool tried to bump us (me, wife and kid) entering a bus, i did the same but this time more forcefully; he had to go through a rather stressful 30 minute bus ride under my stare. Nowadays I dont even notice, but can still get quite angry if wife or kid is involved...

Rush hour on the tube and nobody bumping, shoving or kicking ? Are you kidding ? I still remember that autumn, when most of all when changing the tube-train at Notting Hill Gate, I got constantly kicked from behind, until I developed the technique to elevate a foot and then move it straight back and forth within a few second, and then innocently glancing around declaring "oh sorry" but going ahead.

I then used the technique all over the tube network until late December of that year and on holiday visits to London later on.

But no comparison with the passenger-traffic in central Paris Metro stations, where it is "catch-as-catch-can" Also there, some survival techniques are very useful indeed

No Wolli, I am NOT kidding.

Please, for the love of all things holy, stop being so defensive about everything Switzerland.

Re: attacked by a small elderly woman

More weirdness at the same station this morning: as I was walking down the ramp, some "gangster" (you know the type - wouldn't last five minutes down the Pear Tree) took a long, hard look at me. A minute later he met his chum, nudged him and whispered something, and the friend turned round and looked at me. I walked on, and that was the end of it, but it was a bit odd.

I wonder if there's some notorious sheepshagger living in these parts who looks a bit like me, or something?

I was NOT "defensive about Switzerland" but found a statement saying that nothing thelike happens on the London tube either an extremely strange piece of humour, or a piece of delusion
