Re: Calm yourself down ...

ground, the above suggestions about diet, lifestyle and channeling your aggression towards constructive activites are all good - but how about simply nipping the easier problems in the bud?

Especially the one where that donut is making jokes about your nationality?

Start simply with a: "I am not comfortable that you are making such jokes about my nationality - please stop". Sometimes, thats all it takes, rather than laughing along with him which encourages them to do it further.

Failing which, a change of scenary always does me good. Short trip/holiday somewhere

Are you happy living your life like this? If not, do you know what you are looking for? Remember life is a journey on which we are constantly changing & learning.

I need the constant challenge, I cannot be happy at work doing repetative tasks, I need the hard ones, where I can sink my teeth into.

Doing anything less immediately attacks my self-worth and self-respect, I carry this over home for example.

I put all the time so much pressure on me to achieve and I have so much need to outplay others, otherwise I dont accept my being as at least adequate.

I need the confirmation to be better, it is really controlling me and bringing me high moments, or close to depression.

I do not accept failure, I simply cannot.

Maybe it is still the past that I just dont want to relive, I guess.

Re: Calm yourself down ...

Yeah it is a good idea, but it _doesnt_ take the pressure of.

I need the constant proof to myself I am achieving, so far it expressed itself by growing from job to job - I am constantly rising up the ladder - in 1.5 years from System Engineer to a Project Manager.

I rise in responsiblity and money by a huge amount, and I seem to be tied so much to this that I cannot stop thinking.

I have witnessed how poor my parents have been yet they managed, but I just simply wont take a No for anything I desire.

I see something I desire, I reach it in little time, I have to, it is a deep feeling and desire I cannot fight.

My mind is like a constant rat race.

Re: Calm yourself down ...

Maybe I just should try for more sex - someone tell my wife I once used to be the man rocking the house all night.... some years ago.

Maybe thats all I am missing, think I gotta go back to that _pure_ Energy.

In the past months I have been going from 0 to 180 in a matter of no-time.

Tranquilizers etc wouldnt really help, making me even more aggressive.

Beside I gained weight from them booh.

Really aggressive, I was so close to take my bat from the trunk (in my mind I beat them to pieces).

I have tried to calm myself down now in the past days, and I think I found a good way to deal with Idiots making stupid remarks at work (while they are still remaining slightly above 0 productivity but still observing others at work and carry complaints to their boss), other cars overtaking me on the right on a highway, people ignoring lines when paying etc

I just started to think, Hey, their education seems to be low, could it be they are NOT aware of their surroundings? Should I raise my voice and tell them to f*** off? Not really (anymore).

Doesnt lead anywhere...

I have started to smile, tell myself, look, even if they had a proper school, they are dumb, they dont care, so let them be stupid.

In the past days I witnessed me being less prone to charge up inside and then unload at home, which is always bad.

So my questions would be...

1) Do you believe low education is one of the reasons (one of the managers in a multinational company where I work as a contractor was making Polish jokes knowing I am Polish in a cig break)
2) How do you deal with this?
I know exactly how you feel!!
Sometimes, I get so fed up with being here and dealing with this environment, that I walk around with a lot of anger inside of me. However, the only way to keep myself sane is to have a master plan on how to leave this place and I tightly follow it. This being said, I know it's not easy dealing with idiocy..but I try to focus on the positives..and I have to tell myself, that it's just not worth wasting energy on the negativities and neglect the positives. Throughout my travels, I've lost many friends and distanced myself from countless environments where I was accepted and had lots of friends. Being here now, my phone hardly rings anymore and I would love to be able to call up people randomly and go for lunch or dinner...but this just isn't happening here. Thus remember...have goal and stick to the positives.

Re: Calm yourself down ...

actually, one thing about the driving- that is how i was commuting in nyc. i was a real basketcase after coming and going to work everyday. it really got to me. here we've no car and the train is great so that's one way to relieve that stress, at least if you can.

as for the polish joke thing- first, can you take your break another time? if not say something really obvious, like- hey you know i'm polish right? just to make him check himself, at least for a second.

and if you have all this aggression can you do something, a sport or martial art to take out that energy?
to answer your other question, although we say someone is not educated because they tell stupid jokes or act like an a@s, it has nothing to do with formal education- it's more lack of consideration for others (i'm sure he wouldn't like the same said about what ever he is) not having anything else worthwhile or interesting to say, etc.

to deal with it all? i try to actually just detach myself from it, stupid people like that i hear those things and i tell myself it's more evident of their boring or problematic lives and why waste my time worrying about that when i have a nice family to go home to. sounds corny, but as lib says it does wonders to remember all the positive things and focus on that.

Re: Calm yourself down ...

Dear OP,
Perhaps... perhaps... perhaps
but in the meantime you've done a pretty good job at self-analysis, you've questioned yourself and not only others, you've managed to calm both yourself and your professional environment.

That's really really positive progress (in my honest opinion)

Good for you !!!!!
