Fathers Day this Sunday?

Is it fathers day here on Sunday as well as the UK? I seem to think it's on the same day but haven't noticed any cards in the shops or advertisements as per Swiss mothers day?

Actually there is no "Fathers Day" in Switzerland, (we're a thankless lot here).

That memo didn't get through to our house - somehow it's fathers day every day in our house...

There are no cards. I posted this last year. Father's Day

I have no idea why this has never been celebrated here.
They make such a big deal over Muttertag....and then nothing for the Dads.
I always told the kids, Mother's Day should be EVERYDAY.

We have always celebrated Father's Day on the 3rd Sunday in June.

So to all the Dads out there, enjoy!

Re: Fathers Day this Sunday?

FeldSchiessen - I was always told this was the equivalent of Fathers Day here (hardly!) - all the men get together, away from the family and shoot targets.
More like Man Day - as being a father seems to have little to do with it.

I just laughed.

However, I believe Fathers Day in the UK was only set up as another commercial venture to sell more cards, pressies etc., just to mirror the long existing Mothers Day - which is more traditional, and the timing of which is based around religious festivals (always 3wks before Easter).

Well, it depends.

It's not the same date in all of Switzerland.

Here, it's on March 19. And it's an official holiday, i.e. everything is closed, kids make cards/presents at school, etc.

it' fair....it's proportional to dads & mums involvement in kids conception: few minutes for dad to 9 months for mums.

My children and I will be making Strawberries dipped in chocolate early tomorrow morning and they will be served to Daddy in bed! Their Dad is so special to them and he is a wonderful father. I will be thinking of my Dad tomorrow and hope one of my sisters is doing something special for him!

Re: Fathers Day this Sunday?

Well, we (meaning "we the Basel Children's Trust") have done fathers day stuff with the kids and advertised with our members for tomorrow. I think it's only fair we make the same fuss of the Dads as we do of the Mums.

For our family, the kids have home made gifts and cards for Daddy. It's especially important for us this year since he is going into hospital on Monday - it's a very minor routine op, but all the same, not very nice and we'd rather he wasn't. I shall be doing the full bacon & eggs & pancakes for brekkie too, good wife that I am

Advertisements? Like pictures all over town of happy handsome men playing dad? That would be cute.

Re: Fathers Day this Sunday?

There were a few cards and things I saw being done for the 5th of June. I work as a nanny, so I made things with the kids for their dad to be done on the 5th june, but it's not a big thing over here at all...mothers day is much bigger. And yes...poor dad's ha ha.

I was talking to my daughter and she said fathers day here is on the last sunday of june. Now I myself thought it is this sunday, nevertheless we will be celebrating on the coming sunday. Didnt prepare anything for this sunday anyway.

Re: Fathers Day this Sunday?

Phew, I just went into a huge panic mode as I had forgotten to get him a card and all that until I realised he died a few years back.

What a relief..
