Actually for the record, in Canton VAUD the official text of law mention that tenants are free to make those plates everywhere they want. Only thing is the "landlord/owner" might want it to look like the other ones-
ha ha! that's another classic only in Switzerland. This is actually a law?

Yes!

Source:
DISPOSITIONS PARITAIRES ROMANDES ET REGLES ET USAGES LOCATIFS DU CANTON DE VAUD:
http://www.rsv.vd.ch/dire-cocoon/rsv...s/rsv/6021.pdf

Translation (google):
-Moreover, the production and installation of plates and addresses of the bells
mailboxes, etc.., shall be borne by the tenant. If the landlord imposes a
standard model for the entire building, the tenant can enforce
from the producer of their choice

Also, that document (RULV)dispositions paritaires romandes et règles et usages locatifs du Canton de Vaud must be given by the agency when you have the "tenant contract".

I do think that the people listed in the link below
https://usidentify.com/ian-wank
should be free to choose their own nameplate rather than be forced to comply with the Herr/Frau Initial Familyname convention were they to move to Switzerland

I think his ancestors must have come from Bern, specifically the area around my workplace .

Sigh. Wolli just admit it! Your people are wierd. That's it!
Sorry, what ? I have stated Swiss people to be weird already in the 1960ies, and so quite a while before a good part of the EFFers got born I only oppose members of certain ethnics who do not realize that THEIR ethnics are weird as well

yes..... to the point of alien wierdness.
This "alien weirdness" of course must be the reason why so many more or less excentric "Anglos" love this country ! Almost too Anglo to be true

There are so few 'real problems' in Switzerland so the Swiss have to
'create' a few,I guess.Makes life a bit more interesting...
THE Swiss, I mean the majority of German speakers at least, but to quite some extent also the (Swissified ? ) F-speakers, share the Germanic passion and ability to DETECT problems and negativities

what a wonderfully Swiss answer, the old yes, but....
OK then Wolli, let me rephrase.... you need to get a life
I HAVE a life, and I am NOT with the post-office ! I do not dispute that the Swiss in general tend to be rules and regulations obsessed, I however pointed to ways to circumvent potential problems. If you A) are not to accept realities as they ARE and B) refuse to accept ways to get around potential problems, I am very sorry indeed, sorry FOR YOU I mean

but to "quote" JFK, Switzerland never had to build a wall up to prevent people from leaving it

Actually, it was a public bin - at least it looked it, in the middle of the square in front of the post. But it was funny, that's all. It is their country to do as they please in, and I'm happy to be able to live here!

A law of course. But as "cou.... " clearly stated a law in the Canton of Vaud and not a federal law. I suppose that in most Cantons it is left to the house-adminstration to determine who those things have to be

Re: Only in Switzerland... (anecdotes)

Hey, these girls charge 600 francs for an hour's "massage"!! Which, so I am told, is quite a high price.

This is a nice area of Geneva, family orientated etc. To be honest, it doesn't bother me. But i do side with my neighbours who have kids etc. And doors banging at all hours, music blasting etc.

Gosh, I'm becoming Swiss..... and the neverending toilet flushing!!!

Re: Only in Switzerland... (anecdotes)

Another thing i heard was that the guy who rents the flat where the girls are only pays 2000 francs for a two bed etc.

And he charges the girls 2000 each in rent - so he is really is a "profiteur".

We have a much better class of brothel in our building. They're harldy noticeable except for the credit card sticker on the door and the odd furtive looking bloke walking up or down the ramp.

Not sure, they do have a website. What was funny - when they moved in they put flyers in all the letterboxes around here, complete with a google map picture of where they could be found!!

I presume if you pay 600 for a massage a wee tip would be appreciated. Or even a big one....

Re: Only in Switzerland... (anecdotes)

It doesn't bother me, per se. I lived in Paquis for years where most of the flats had ladies of the night and day in them. Who are lovely people.

It's just weird to have them here. And we have had used condoms posted in our letterboxes. Yum.

Recently, the front door which had a code has been vandalised. It just pushes open.... so anyone can wander in and piss in the corner.

Re: Only in Switzerland... (anecdotes)

So one time I was riding my bike and at some point my wallet fell off my pocket.

I was pissed off and worried, cause although I had no money in it, I had my Krankenhaus card, ID, license, etc. and I was already fussing about all the paperwork I had to do and the absurd fees they would make me pay to get a duplicate of my cards(man that alone only happens in CH).

So then two hours later I started getting a call from a weird number(it was a sunday) and I wasn't expecting any calls and didn't want to be bothered with anyone so I just didn't answer, and they called, and called.... like 3 times total.

Well then after another two hours, it came to me I had to denounce the loss of my ID's to the police so when I called them they told me Mr. XXXX "We've been trying to get in touch with you all afternoon, someone found your wallte and bring it here, please do come by to retrieve it"

Man, I was so happy and relieved for that and it was one of the few, erm I mean many moments I was glad to live in this country.
