I have also seen kids waiting for the car to come and stop instead of crossing when it isn't there.
It seems to get drummed into kids to do this drill from early in their school career. Looking at it from their point of view - as a wide-eyed five year-old being told by a policeman to do it that way is going to make most of them comply.

I remember when I was a wee five year-old, if a policeman told you something, it must have been right...

We had OUR police-school-instructors for several decades. Mr Witschi was in charge for all the schools of the area for more than 30 years, and was the most popular chap I can remember.

People in the offices of "Die Post" tend to be more Swiss than Swiss, and are always right. How dare you to doubt their unlimited wisdom

And again, had he used a "public bin" 100 meters down the road or at the rail-station, nothing would have happened
One good thing about the Swiss Post employees is that I've now gone to pick up parcels so often they now tell me they don't need to see my ID anymore

Of course they're not happy the parcels are occasionally from outside CH.

Same here.

On the other hand, I've never needed to show my ID to vote, nor even tell them my name!

Why is beer sooo expensive when there is a grazing cow every 50 ft?

Does it really??? So, do Swiss cows die of natural causes, happily grazing into oblivion? Or do they end up as a delicacy on the table of the British Royal Family?

Nowadays, yes, but this was true even before they started giving the paperwork, i.e. in the days when they just mailed the voting slips, not the paper that you now need to hand in to show that you didn't vote by mail.

Protectionism of the Swiss farmers.... rather than welcoming competition and ensuring greater efficiencies...

They end up on the tables, but are not many enough to satisfy demand. And most are "in service" anyway as milk producers !

I get the voting stuff by mail and of course return the voting by mail. I did the personal voting last time some 25 years ago

A) competition would simply mean lower prices
B) the SVP of today is the BGB (Bauern .....) of before. Which grew out of the BAUERN-PARTEI (farmers-party) , And so, about half of the SVP plays the farmers game in favour of protectionism and monopoly
