Only in Switzerland... (anecdotes)

Have you witnessed or experienced something that only could happen in Switzerland?

Here's mine: I'd just moved to Switzerland when I picked up a package in the post with my Cablecom modem in it. As I was on my way to town by train and didn't want to carry the box all day, I took out the contents, put them in my bag, and dropped the flattened cardboard box in the bin outside the post. One week later I received an official-looking letter warning me against any more illegal dumping!

(Note: it was a smallish box, and I normally do recycle, but...)

Beside the Swiss waste-disposal-mania which is undisputable, just a hint. Had you taken the flattened cardbox to an "official bin" 100 meters down the road or one at the train-station, nothing would have happened.

the effort and time people here spend to check, and look into things that are not of importance nor their concern is really astonishing...
...get a life!

Insult value: 1/10. "Get a life" is a cliche usually used by people who ironically have nothing better to do than post "get a life" on internet forums.

Relevance: 0/10. No effort involved by the OP as the warning letter was posted to them. "Nor their concern" is wrong as it directly concerned them.

Overall rating: Poor.
i'm guessing it was directed at those who took the thing out of the bin and reported it rather than the OP...

Re: Only in Switzerland... (anecdotes)

I received a letter from my landlord (tennant company that shall remain nameless but the name rhymes with "dross"). The letter started by telling me how pleasant it was that spring had now arrived and the weather was getting warmer etc. Then it went on the state that less pleasant was the fact that my garden needed trimming and tidying and that if i didn't get it done they would do it and send me the bill.

People in the offices of "Die Post" tend to be more Swiss than Swiss, and are always right. How dare you to doubt their unlimited wisdom

And again, had he used a "public bin" 100 meters down the road or at the rail-station, nothing would have happened

Nah. The Swiss just care so much about their country, they'll go to great strides to keep as beautiful and functioning as possible.

There are so few 'real problems' in Switzerland so the Swiss have to
'create' a few,I guess.Makes life a bit more interesting...

Re: Only in Switzerland... (anecdotes)

Early start, headed to Glarnerland, cable car up from Ennenda on an early November day last fall. Foggy and misty, one could hardly see 20 yards in any direction. Shortly before 9am puncturing the top layer and stepping into glorious sunshine, it was like entering another world. A world of peaks and glory bathed in radiance and an endless deep blue that went on forever. The Schilt stood majestic, welcoming the human challenge.

A Narniaesque gateway to the heavens. Priceless and free to all those who venture.

Re: Only in Switzerland... (anecdotes)

After having issues returning back to Switzerland on my Canadian passport (dual-citizen, but no Swiss Passport), on the monday I googled "How to get my Swiss Passport" and by friday I had it in my hands.

I entered <50 characters on their website, 2-3 radio/check buttons, an email click to choose when to come in for pictures, and going in and paying. Less than 5 days!

I think the last time I got my Canadian passport renewed--it took 9 months!-wasn't even biometric.

Next time, remember to rip the name/address label of anything before dumping.

After all - this is Switzerland - anonymity is king.
