Because I'm shit at writing and I wouldn't find a publisher, have no fantasy n'all.

It doesn't matter if you never find a publisher, I haven't either. But it's a fun mental exercise. And it lets you tell lies.

Re: Bored this summer? Why not write a novel?

Does anyone mind if I hijack this thread? *brings out soapbox*

Two of us in Zürich are trying to get a writing group started up, peers critiquing peers, all genres, lengths and forms welcome! I had a group when I used to live in Canada, and it was a blast, plus some of our stories got published after the rigour of peer review. Getting face-to-face contact with other authors is something I really like.

I've been hoping to reach out to fellow English-language writers here in Switzerland, but I don't know where to look. If you're interested drop me a message!

That's something really new. Very interesting. I would join, unfortunately English is not my first language.

I don't think English has to be your first language, you just need to be able to write in it?

Re: Bored this summer? Why not write a novel?

No problem armandair! (I only specify English because that's the only language I can write in and properly critique) One of my friends who is Dutch writes as evocativly in English as Ursela LeGuin, so it shouldn't matter if it isn't your first language.

Re: Bored this summer? Why not write a novel?

Hi, what kind of meetings did you have in mind? I'd love to be part of a writing group, but I have a 2-year-old (and another baby on the way), so I'd need my husband to babysit. Unless wild toddlers are welcome. Having time to write is sometimes hard, too, though I'm proud to have written almost 100k words in a novel during my son's naps.
