Re: Turned down my dinner invitation

So what great culinary delight were you going to cook that pissed you off with him for three days?

You did say that you don't like to cook...

I feel bad for the guy. Any history of people "coming out" here on EF?

My girlfriend says drop him, as you just dont do that to a friend.

What do you think?

I think there are some more issues between the lines than a cancelled invite...

An amazing discussion, I had a pretty good laugh. 4 pages of more or less serious comments... Should be more than enough

1. However, one day before, he cancelled, saying he had to see his girlfriend that night. I was furious, and still am. He sent me an SMS to apologise after telling me personally, but I didnt answer, as I feel pretty let down. He's a good mate.

2. Do you think I am wrong to be angry?

3. My girlfriend says drop him, as you just dont do that to a friend.

4. What do you think?
1. Jasus, he's your mate not your GF and it's not as if he cancelled 1 hour before he was going to come over, he gave you a days notice.

2. Yeh I do think you are wrong for being angry. As others have said maybe there was a good personal reason why he had to go see his GF, maybe she was having a problem or something.

3. I think you need to revaluate your relationship with your GF. If my GF told me to dump my friend over something like this then it would make me wonder what petty thing she would dump me over.

4. I think as others have said, you should carry on as normal and get back to being friends. What happened was a disappointment to you especially as you were going to go to all that effort however it's not the end of the world.

If I or indeed most of the EFers dropped my mates every time they cancelled plans on me then I think I'd be pretty friendless by now!

I have a close friend who I have known for years. We often have dinner together, at his place or mine. We both have girlfriends, but neither of us live with them. I invited him to dinner at my place recently, going to great trouble to prepare to make him welcome. However, one day before, he cancelled, saying he had to see his girlfriend that night. I was furious, and still am. He sent me an SMS to apologise after telling me personally, but I didnt answer, as I feel pretty let down. He's a good mate.

Do you think I am wrong to be angry? We work in the same bank, but I have now avoided him for 3 days. I dont want to stop being mates with a good friend, football mate, drinking buddy, but I am pretty pissed off. I hate cooking, but went out of my way to get in stuff for a nice evening. My girlfriend says drop him, as you just dont do that to a friend.

What do you think?

You didn't start cooking. So what? If he's your buddy, he would not pimp you like that with out a good reason. You had all the food, like someone said, cook it for your girlfriend. Move on dude!

I'm pretty sure it hasn't been said yet but, "dude, get over it, stop behaving like a girl, he's not your boyfriend". I added something new to the thread, right?

erm, what would you think if he dropped you the same way for same reason?
he let you down once in your friendship n you snapped? come on... if all your time spent together doesnt outshine the let down of a bloody dinner...then its a) no friendship and b) i wouldnt be your friend.

I am going to dig in the OP's previous posts....potential of finding some golden nugget posts is high given the reaction to this dramatic cancellation of a great dinner party.
