Re: Account details for Beggas collection

Thanks Ouchboy,

I didn't want to put names (or even initials) into a public list, so we can keep it private. I was thinking along the lines of a list of::
x CHF received on time/date (then something like the last couple of numbers of an account number?)

Just so that everyone can see their donation in the list, then if anything goes missing due to IBAN/Account number errors it can be spotted (and also so that you can all be sure that every penny is going to Begga's fund, which we promise you it is!).

J

I would have thought people put their name on the reason for payment... but time/donation combo seems good enough.
Thanks for taking care of this.

I'm with ya... last numbers plus amount should be clear enough.

Re: Account details for Beggas collection

I have just returned home from work to find an envelope in my mail box with a 50chf note and a message saying an anonymous donation for Begga

People never cease to amaze me - touched

Re: Account details for Beggas collection

Hi guys,

We just checked the account and found CHF 1,495 in there! You are all so generous The account has only been open for a couple of days (and most online payments longer than that to appear!).

Some of the guys in Basel will be meeting Begga's mum and family over the next few days. When the time is right, we will mention this collection and try and get a feel for their wishes. I know that money is tight in Iceland at the minute, so if they need it we can get it to them immediately, but we think they are getting all the help possible from the consulate. The final descision should obviously be for the family to make, but if they are stuck for ideas I know you guys can help with that.

Some people have said they might not be able to get to a bank in the next few days weeks, but that isn't a problem. This account will stay open and we will check it regularly, even if it is six months down the line - we'll make sure it gets to the family.

We will call into the branch at regular intervals to get a detailed statment which will hopefully allow us to itemise everything as I mentioned earlier, so everyone can cross check their payment against the total. The online banking just shows a summary of each transaction, including the text that was entered in the "booking text" box (some of you gave your name and a message), but not the account number it has come from.

If anyone has any problems or questions, just get in touch. I'll update the total tomorrow and Isa said she would call into the bank for a detailed statement on Thursday (assuming she isn't tied up helping the family).

You guys are lovely,

Jamie & Isa

Re: Account details for Beggas collection

I just wrote a PM to Jamie and then thought, I could write this here.

I deeply appreciate all you both are doing Isa and Jamie,
it's you both who are wonderful.
Thank you so much

Thank you also for not posting names or initials of the contributors on EF. I personally don't feel comfortable with that due to the very public image of EF.

Thanks for posting Sky, and your kind words, we would all do anything to help out Begga and her family.

Rest assured we won't identify personal contributions on here. I'm still struggling to think of a way of letting pepole see that theire payment was received (especially for cash deposits etc). For those of you still planning to give to the collection, maybe you could get creative with the amount? Instead of 50 CHF, try 51.43 CHF! Then it will be easy to see on an anonymous list

Where cash is concerned, maybe you could just identify the donor by their initials? I would think that there would still be an element of anonymity as most people use a special forum name (apart from myself ...)

Just to clarify I haven't done anything I just made sure the account details were on their own thread - this is purely all Isa's work

Actually, it will be a little more difficult than that I believe (and I'm really sorry to say) because certain banks will deduct a bank fee depending on the method of payment. So the amount sent might not be exactly the amount received.

Wish I had a solution to propose.

I figure, especially in CH, it's just going to work and not to worry about it.
Anyway.. if it doesn't, for those paying via bank transfer, the amount is re-credited if it doesn't reach destination.

Re: Account details for Beggas collection

A couple of people have dropped off cash donations to my market at the Viadukt the last couple of days, if anyone would prefer to this method that's fine with me. We will continue today at the HB market and Viadukt and right up to the Ploughmans in Rapperswil on Saturday when we can pass the total on to someone from Basel. I'll make a list of donators with either your real name, user name or "annon".

A condolence book has also been dropped off and that will be at the HB market today then at the Viadukt Thursday and Friday and again will be passed on on Saturday to be given/sent to Beggas family. I've not seen it yet but I've been told that it's thick enough that photos can also be put in this.

Re: Account details for Beggas collection

Hi guys,

Thanks to your generosity, there is now 3,123.25 CHF in the account, plus 142 CHF we have been handed in cash (plus the money that sherryvision collected at the barbeque).

We haven't mentioned this collection to the family yet. The've had a very tough day in Basel today, going through all the official procedures and paperwork, and there are still several financial matters to sort out. They have been getting all the finacial help possible from the consulate and insurance companies; many things are fully covered and will be paid for. However, I get the feeling that money is going to be an issue over the next few weeks/months. I think this collection, and the others that are going on, will go a long way to helping the family at this time. It is amazing all the help that friends and strangers alike have been giving over the last week. It is a very personal issue for the family, but we are going to try and find out exactly how much help the family need, and then find a solution.

A few of you have messaged me asking if we could check whether various payments have gone through. I will go through the online statements when I get chance, probably at the weekend, and get back to you - please remind me if I forget!! Isa was with the family all day, translating and driving them around, along with Sherry and Justine, so she didn't get chance to get a fully itemised statement from the bank - she will do soon though. I'm confident everything is getting through though.

Thanks again to you all, I hope I get to meet you all in person one of these days!

Well done you two! I have over 300 CHF which has been handed over to us at our markets in Zurich and I'll pass that on on Saturday at the Ploughmans where I am sure more will be collected.

Re: Account details for Begga's collection

Sorry it has taken me so long to log on her again and give you an update, but I have been very busy this last week and this is the first time I have had a few minutes to sit down and write a few lines.

First of, I would like to give you an update of how much money we have raised: At the 4th of July BBQ in Basel, CHF700. As of today, there are CHF3123.25 in the account and CHF 1270 were raised in Rapperswil. We also have another CHF 140 in cash from Basel.

As far as accounting for donations, Jamie is trying to figure out a way. Anybody is welcome to come see me (you can appoint somebody in Basel) and I will show you the statements (with names blocked out) so you can see there are only deposits and no withdrawals (except for the transfer to Iceland).

I would like to thank you all so much for your generosity and let you know, how much the family is appreciating everything we are doing. I was able to tell some of you in person in Raperswil, yesterday and it was so nice to meet some of Begga’s friends from Zurich.

There will be bills to be paid and the insurance will take a while to reimburse the family for the high expenses they are having and with things being tough in Iceland economically, this is one way we can really help them out. More people have asked me for the account information, so pass it on and please keep the donations coming.

Begga’s uncle has opened an account at a bank in Iceland in Begga’s Mum’s name. So you can transfer money directly to that account. I will keep the account here open, so if you prefer transferring it to this account, I will take care of the transfer to Iceland.
I will go to the bank tomorrow and deposit the cash donations, then transfer the amount to Iceland.
The Icelandic bank account is:

IBAN: IS60 0114 2610 0122 3004 6041 09
Swift(BIC): NBIIISRE
Eyrún Ţóra Baldursd. Bachmann

I would also like to give you a quick update about the family:
Begga’s mum Eyrún, brother Ingi and uncle Fridgeir came on Wednesday and stayed through Friday,
We were able to take care of all the official things that needed taking care of, shared some tears but also some laughter and great memories of Begga.
Begga’s mum is an incredibly strong woman and was very composed during this terribly challenging time.
I would like for everybody to know, that they are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support they have received. Her Mum said that Begga blossomed here, and she was very happy. She also said it was nice to see how many friends Begga has and how many lives she touches.
They have expressed their gratitude so many times, that I am unable to do it justice here in just one paragraph, but please everybody know that all we have done is much appreciated.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me should you need anything.
