Re: Account details for Begga's collection

Isa,

Thank you so much for all your work. Is the family still here and will they be taking Begga back to Iceland for the funeral ?

Thanks also to the others who have helped in this tragic situation. It would be nice to know who you are.

Re: Account details for Begga's collection

They left yesterday - with a delay of a few hours. The icelandic volcano was brewing and it was unclear what was going on with the flights. Fortunately, they were able to get home safely yesterday.
As for Begga's body - we were able to arrange for transfer on Thursday. She is home. The funeral is on Friday.

About the collections:

Jamie reminded me to let you guys know that the collection from Rapperswil is made up of cash donations from forum members, Julie's wages (I hope she does not mind me mentioning it here, but she deserves a big THANK YOU), cash donations Grumpy had gotten at the Viadukt and parts of the proceeds from the lunch.

Grumpy would not let us pay for our lunches, cheese and chutney, so that money went straight to the fund.
Thanks so much for your generosity !

Re: Account details for Begga's collection

Just a quick update to let you know that I have transferred CHF 3500. We are holding back some money for Begga's roomates deposit on the flat and other expenses that may come. When we know where we stand of course we will transfer the rest.
The BIC you need to use is
NBIIISREXXX - I had to make some calls to find that out. Apparently if there is only an 8 digit, you just stick three Xs on the end.
I have also received a detailed statement in the mail today - there are no account numbers, just dates, amounts, names and for some a place/an address. If anybody would like for me to double check that your donation went in just send me an e mail and I will be happy to do so.
Also a heads up - we are leaving for two weeks on Friday, so no worries if I don't post while on vacation. I will get back on as soon as I get a chance. Thanks again, everybody

Re: Account details for Begga's collection

Just a quick update – the transport cost for Teckla to Iceland will be about ‎300,000 kroner = 2,141.42 CHF. The family – understandably – wants Teckla moved to Iceland when they can.
The first time we spoke to the attorney, he said that this is cost that will not be covered by the insurance.
So if you are asking what money is needed for…. here is one answer.
Also the bills have started coming to the family – nobody know yet how much of these various bills will be covered by the insurance. Frankly, I am quite shocked that a family that has just lost a child, has to deal with bills regarding their daughter’s accident.

Thank you all again for those who have already generously donated – as for me, I am donating again to make sure there is enough money raised for Teckla’s transport.

Re: Account details for Begga's collection

CHF 2141 sounds like a lot of money for sending Teckla to Iceland. Is that when the Dog is sent alone, or is it the costs for sending 1 person plus the dog as "Luggage" ?
I am unemployed at the moment, so if the last option would save costs, I would not mind bringing Teckla and return to CH the next day.

You're right. I did not think of quarantaine. I just looked it up, and it seems Teckla is in for 4 weeks.

Re: Account details for Begga's collection

I just looked a bit further for the requirements to get Teckla to Iceland. In worst case, she will be "stuck" in Switzerland for 120 days, plus 1 month if it does not fit with the dates where animals can be imported. Is it registered anywhere, which shots she already has ?

Yes, grumpy (who is taking care of Teckla for the time being) has all the paperwork. And from what Ingi said on the other thread, the quarantine people are working with them in Iceland--at least as far as the cost is concerned. I think there is no question grumpy will keep Teckla until the time is right and then when every i is dotted and every t is crossed both here in Switzerland and there in Iceland, they will make sure it is the easiest possible transition for Teckla (and the family). She is in good hands for sure.

I am also a person with quite a bit of spare time (part-time employment) who would be happy to make the trip if Teckla needs to be accompanied by someone.

Re: Account details for Begga's collection

Hi All

I got a message from Jamie yesterday to ask me to update this thread and let you all know they are now on holiday for 2 weeks so wont be able to check on recent payments going through until they return.

I hope they have a happy holiday despite the sadness.

Re: Account details for Begga's collection

Back from vacation – here is an update.

During the time we were on vacation another CHF 810,50 were donated into the account.
Sherry organized a girl’s event and we raised another CHF 500 from some very generous ladies here in Basel (thanks to everybody, again) on Thursday.

I have transferred 206,430.68 to Iceland.
Icelandic Kroner that is - which is CHF 1,365.
Still holding back about CHF 1,000 for expenses we may need covering here.

Hopefully, we will be able to wrap everything up soon and transfer that as well.

I have spoken to the family on a regular basis – especially her uncle, but also her mum and brother and they want everybody to know how much they appreciate what we all have done for them. Her mum’s words were:
I don’t even know what to say, you have all been so generous.

I’d like to take this chance as well to thank everybody. Thanks for the donations, but also the kind words, emails and support.

A big thank you to Grumpy who is taking such good care of Teckla.

I will keep the account open indefinitely - I still get the occasional email asking if donations are still accepted. Of course they are
