I'm curious to know if there is any way to discover when the images from Google maps and map.search were taken. Judging by the one from our area, it is after our appt blocks were completed, but before being fully occupied, which puts it 2006 I believe. Then when you scroll over to where the 1st August celebrations take place, you can see the intact bonfire and tables and chairs being pout out. I think I can therefore narrow down the exact date to 31st July/1st August 2006. I think. Anywhere I can confirm this. Exercise in fultility maybe, but it will ease my sense of curiosity.

I don't know for google map, but on google Earth, you have the dates indicated, you can even chose older pictures to see the changes....

There's a block of apartments just up the road from my place that were built about 10 years ago. In the satellite picture of my neighborhood you can make out they've just broken ground for those apartments..!

Edit: I take it back, I just looked again (first time in a couple of years) and see they have updated the pictures. The apartments are now shown but some road works which were finished about 3 years ago are obviously not done in the picture.

btw. the answer is, if you switch to satellite view and zoom into the max level, and bring your face to within a few inches of your monitor you will see a very, very faint watermark which looks like it says "2011 Google" (at least in the places i checked)

Actually, until recently the google map was obviously older than the map.search, because our block hadn't even been built, and it was after August as the bonfire had gone . The images are identical now.

I think the "2011 Google" is some sort of copyright mark; nothing to with the age of the map data.
I have noticed that sometimes the maps are made up of sections of different ages so, for example, roads do not meet properly.

Actually, I quickly compared the google and search.ch maps and the google are now more up to date, our block appears occupied and there are newer appts near our old place which aren't on the search.ch maps.

The reason why I asked, is because I catch myself strolling down scenic spots on google earth from time to time...

n.b. ( because I know you people care ) ... google satellite view used to have a pic of our garden with the marquee ( tent ) we had up for our wedding in 2001.
it was only there for four days so "they" musta been spying on us.
street view hasnt quite made it all the way down to our village in Cornwall yet.
