1000th post - What has it been like to get here?

So……. this is my 1000th post

It seems that there is a bit of an EF tradition to let people know about this magical number, and what it has been like to get here.
From my first post (where I was a newbie like anyone else) I had never participated in an online forum before and had no idea what to expect.
I have found the EF community more than embracing. Whenever I needed to help, there was someone there with an answer…….. likewise this has also inspired me to help others where I can (usually with dog or agricultural advice, not so much about Switzerland).
Together we are an eclectic group of people with a range of ethnic backgrounds, ages, and skill sets. Each of us is therefore able to offer an opinion from an alternative point of perspective, and keeping (most of us) our minds open about whatever the topic of discussion maybe.
It’s a very unique feeling to trust and accept comments from people you mostly know via their Monika and Avatar………. Who are these people?........ does it matter ???..... I thank each and every one of you.

What have I learnt?:
  • Learn to speak the language (your choice which one, but pick one)
  • Don’t post when you are emotional or Drunk
  • Use the search function first
  • You can live in Switzerland on less than 120Kchf with or without Brown Sugar
  • Stop comparing where you are from to where you are now.
Before I finish, I want to conclude with THREE big Thank you’s:

The first is for everyone who reads this.
Thank you for helping me to settle into a foreign country with relative ease. Travelling here on my own, without another language, or even a clear reason why I came was difficult, but the members of EF were always there with advice or just a good laugh when I needed it.

The second is for the Swiss (Yes, the Swiss members on the forum.)
You guys don’t get half the amount of praise you deserve. This maybe an “English Forum” but it is still an English speaking forum for people who live in “Switzerland” and this shouldn’t be forgotten.
“Swiss bashing” on the forum is easy when you are frustrated and can not understanding how things work here…. But this is your country we live in, and the posts that you make both help us to understand life here a little better, and ‘keep us real’ when we are out of line.

The third and most important……… Is for Begga
Fewer people have made such a strong first impression on me both on and off the forum.
I would like to say that I always enjoyed your style of writing, humour, and attitude towards others.
The timing of my 1000th post couldn't be worse with your tragic passing, but I think I speak for the entire EF community when I say wou will always remain the model member of this community and somebody we could only hope to emulate. Thank you for everything you have contributed to both our lives within the EF, and outside amongst the people you knew you best. May you forever rest in peace.

Thank you everyone

You trust us? That's probably the only bit I'd have to take issue with, otherwise a cool post.

We use Avatars otherwise certain people would scare off new users with their real world looks.

Good on ya mate - made it into the league of the big Players.

I don't entirely agree with "what you have learned.."-
More languages in a sentence make for entertaining conversation- especially when drunken or emotional.
Drunken, emotional posts make for entertaining reading...
but hey- each to their own.

And its only taken 2 years
Remember that old aboriginal saying -
Empty vestals make the most noise..

Re: 1000th post - What has it been like to get here?

Great post,
Congratulations on your 1000th.

I am way off, but in light of recent events, I am apt to see the world through a different pair of eyes, and tear my walls down, so to speak. I have seen humanity at its finest in the last few days, and aim to become a better person, because of this. I am stunned and awed, at how amazing you guys are on this forum. I have never seen anything like it, you guys rock.

Congratulations.

Re: 1000th post - What has it been like to get here?

Sorry mate. 'Twas I.

After editing the fonts in your first post in this Thread to make them all the same size and admiring the sentiments expressed, I wandered, as is my wont, through the new posts checking them out. And there, hiding in Daily Life, was this Thread which undoubtedly belongs in football/sports. Without thinking of the dire consequences, I moved it.

That sub-forum is Off-Topic and your two posts, written today, no longer 'count' and were automatically deducted from your total.

I doubt it will ever affect me.....I'm a million miles, sorry kilometres, from a 1000th post after 3.5 years!!!

And just to comment on Bill's post, I found it tricky these past few days not to post when emotional, given the recent EF tragedy.

Re: 1000th post - What has it been like to get here?

But Hey, let's look on the bright side

WHO GETS A SECOND CHANCE AT 1000 POSTS ?

I guess I should take this second opportunity to thank everyone for their comments, thanks, blobbies etc.

I'd better make a few extra posts today to make sure I don't go backwards again........ even if it is just 'cat pictures' like Ouchboy.
