Re: What on earth just happened in Pfaffikon SZ?

Reporting from Wollerau: I just came home from the gym and well: There is a huge pile in front of my houses garage, so I cannot get in. There are huge piles of hail along the street and the fire fighters are working on some old house that has apparently lost a lot of its roof (falling in pieces to the street). The storm was so strong that it lifted my wintergarden doors out of the bearing and totally messed up the place... I hope there is not more to come as I cannot close the doors now and will need to call the landlord...

some impressions attached.

P.S: Why does this website always turn my pics sideways?

Come on Basel! I want a huge hailstorm - never seen one before. Had a freak hailstorm a couple of years ago in Stuttgart but the hail was nowhere near as big as shown in that 20min article.

All we have here is some fluffy cloud and sunshine.
We had those in Savannah all the time... Had to replace a roof because of hail.... Golf Ball sized.... Glad everyone is OK though....

Just had a call from a friend who works at Roche Rotkreuz who told me of losing her two colleagues, just as they were arriving for their summer party on the Zug lakeshore this afternoon.

Again, we never know the minute.

Re: What on earth just happened in Pfaffikon SZ?

It was crazy. The sunlights in our office building broke and water and hail was coming in. The windshield on my car is wrecked and my car's hood looks like a golf ball. Then the street (between Wollerau and Samstagern) flooded due to hail filling the drains.

I've seen hail storms plenty back in Texas, but this was an exceptionally violent one. Golf ball sized hail.

Has anyone watched the forecast? Is there more coming tonight? I am not sure weather to park my car outside with the potential danger of getting hail damage or park it inside with the potential danger of getting the car park flooded... after all did the hail today jam the door, so it would be trapped there...

Yes and yes basically. But shouldn't be quite as intensive as that little one (little in size, not intensity)

Did you forget to close the trash bag when you put it out last time? That would be a major offense and will let all - hail - break loose

Looks like our house is pretty much in the "epicenter". Hmmm I am sure SWMBO put the binds down this morning. Wonder if they are still there?

I can hear more thunder coming now and went for the inside option - chance that the parking fills up are much smaller than more hail...

Hail is perfectly safe as long as you aren't out in it or exposed to falling glass that it breaks.

If you are a car or skylight, then all bets are off.

Erm, that sounds like a definition of perfectly unsafe.

So true, so sad... we were arriving to the party when the huge storm started, some of us where luckily close to a building so we could get some shelter, we hugged and prayed not to be carried away for the incredible wind. When the storm stopped, and we started to warm up, fireman cars showed up, then... ambulances, then an helicopter... something was obviously very wrong. Party was cancelled, everybody go back home in shock, thinking who may have been affected, how, any life at risk?... Then the news in the newspapers and internal confirmation that 2 colleagues unfortunately passed away. Horrendous that two souls won´t be coming home from a party, also very bad not to know who they are just yet.
