Warning for people in Basel area and Alsace - an English-speaking man rang our doorbell yesterday and claimed that they were just doing some work in the area and had some asphalt left over - so they could do our driveway really cheap.
This, of course is a very old scam, they will do a horrible job and second, will then claim that you misheard the price and threaten you to cough up 10 times more - just google tarmac scam.

We told them to get lost, but this morning I noticed a fresh, but amazingly badly done driveway in the village, so obviously not all people have heard about it. So especially if you have elderly neighbours, might be a good idea to mention this. They can also offer chimney cleaning/roof repair/gardening and similar services.
