house bills

Hi everyone!!
my boyfriend and I are moving to Zurich in September and there are many questions before that moment. I was wondering if u could help us
one of them is how much we will have to pay for a flat (more or less) for we both in this city and the other one is how much could be per month to pay all the bills (such electricity, internet, etc)

Thanks a lot!!!

Re: house bills

Welcome!

As far as the price of a flat goes - this obviously varies immensely depending on size, number of rooms, and location. We found www.homegate.ch offered a useful starting point/guide prices when we were looking for accommodation.

Electricity we find very cheap here - costs us less than CHF 1000 per year for a 4.5 room apartment.

Heating, hot water and so on are billed through the 'nebenkosten' or common charges of the apartment and can be found on the above property site. These are estimates which are then calculated annually and you pay any difference owed.

We get cable TV, hi speed internet and phone line for CHF 65 per month (not including phone calls). We use Skype to call internationally.

In a nutshell whilst rents are very expensive, the day to day bills associated with the property are low - especially as apartments tend to be so well insulated.
