House owner search?

Probably in the wrong section but dont know where to put it, mods?

Anyway i drive past a house in France everyday that no one appears to live in or visit or anything and seems to have been this way for a few years.. its in a great spot and i would like to make the owners an offer and do it up etc.

I have found the official parcel of land on the french land registry but there are no details on the owners etc?

Anyone any ideas how i would find out?

cheers

Asking around in the neighborhood always seems to work. Or at the local grocer / metzger / pub ?

PS: I know its obvious but just a suggestion.

Re: House owner search?

I'm presuming that if you've looked at the land registry then you've already asked at the Mairie?
Try the church, the priest might have an idea which family lived there; especially if it's a really old house.
The local fire brigade might know*, our local fireman seems to know everyone in the area.
I know Zuger suggested something similar, but you don't really need to set fire to it!

How is he supposed to find the fire brigade without a fire?!

The Church is a good idea though.

Re: House owner search?

I don't have to look for my local fireman as he lives the other side of the stream from me and along a bit.... I just shout!
The fire station is near the middle of the village; it's great fun watching them all rush off to put out some twit's barbeque though. Perhaps a fire's not such a bad idea.....

Re: House owner search?

Does the house have a number ? you still can send a letter to this address by the post... (number + name of the road)

Or let a mail in the mailbox, if there's one (who knows, somebody could get it)

I think you should ask to the "Mairie" they usually have this kind of information.

adding : a last suggestion : neighbourhood ?
