Taxed on Warranty Repair?
My router died but was still under warranty. DHL came and got it and took it to France for repairs. A couple weeks later it came back (actually I think they just sent me a new one, old was probably not repairable) and I thought that was that. But now, 2 weeks later I got a bill, from DHL, for "TVA: 16.25, Vorlageprov. / Prov. advance fonds 3.00, admin fee 19.5" Total 38.75..
Netgear France had declared the value at 203chf! (you can get them for less than 100chf these days)
Whats ridiculous is that when I sent to France they had me fill out a special form noting that it was for repair and thus not taxable... seems they don't bother doing the same when sending back to me.
There is fine print on the bottom saying something about contesting before the customs directorate of geneva (at least thats what google translate comes up with)
Is it normal to charge TVA on repair/warranty work? Is it worth even trying to dispute? Would I have to pay the 19.50 + 3 admin fees anyway?
