I disbelieve the OP is a Swede on the general principle that Swedes are pretty stuck on their own country (Anyone here ever see Lars von Trier's "Riget"? Stig is a cartoon, but not by much). I think it's safe to say that someone must be bored and trolling for entertainment.
I never said anything about Swedes being stuck. I was talking about US citizens. Not Swedish citizens.

Funny thing, those meatballs, as Finns claim that the meatball is really theirs and not the Swedes (which I don't give much credit to as Finns couldn't afford the meat for many years after the war). Their dairy products, particularly the various yoghurts and cheeses, are also rather delish.
I love the home esthetics. And have a fab sewing book for babies, by Lotta Jansdotter. That and the meatballs, and the weather too, traditional knitting and strong family culture, makes me believe Sweden must be cool. Oh. And forgot Pipi and Bullerbine kids.

Although, a friend lived there and said it was depressing.

Coz even the ones that do are scared away by some people snooping into their profile all the time.

But the Finns have Tove Jansson and the Moomins.

Scandinavia is pretty cool, but having 6+ months of dark, cold, bleak weather and a culture that isn't very chatty (unless rather drunk) is rather depressing at times. I remember the first family 'party' I went to where everyone was seated around a large room, all of them looking at their shoes and not talking. I damn near started crying until someone finally started talking after about an hour of shoe-staring. I still miss it up there, but life there was pretty challenging.

But, käraste, even the yankees look tame by comparison of the 'stuck-o-meter' of nationalism. Scandinavians are the worst offenders in the 'let me tell you how much the US sucks compared to $country' which, while not uncommon sport, remains a rather annoying one. Even when inverted, e.g. CH is so great..., it's still annoying.

I can imagine. Sounds like a place with a character. Knitting is cool in situations like these, really. Even if you don't know how to knit, pretend or knit something really...unwearable.

Moomins are fin/swedish, no? They are great. But the only film I found is so scary my child can't watch it, argh.

How did we get to Scandinavia?

Something tells me CH is somewhat similar, strong character place as well, people set in some ways..It seems cold but really isn't, though.

I thought it was the other way around - that the Swiss constitution was influenced by the US constitution. I may be wrong on this one though.
That reminds me of the first time I went to the States and was at a party in Washington DC in the 90s. The party was full of graduate, professionals in their mid twenties.
I asked them all a general knowledge question (suspecting they wouldn't know).
Which country produced the first motor car?
USA, Ford model T, all of them (that answered) answered. They were all confused and disbelieving that it wasn't the US.

Why does Switzerland attracts so many lunatics/red-necks/probably Tea-party supporters from the US?
completely and utterly agree with the above statement.
Of course our nation is not perfect there are so many things that we can still change to improve our nation. First and foremost, INCREASE the taxes on the rich to help the poor

I cannot think why this Thread was written in this Forum at all. This is not www.swissforum.ch. Of course, there are a few Swiss on here, but they are definitely very much in the minority - and hardly worth mentioning.

I'm visiting from Mars and must say that I'm pretty impressed the way you Earthlings handle your planet. Back on Mars we don't get to vote for our government, the long lineage of Emperor Ming continues.

I especially like the way that you lock up your spare people to ensure a ready future supply for generations and pay the ones with bumps on the front and long hair less to encourage them to make babies and cook for the menfolk. Very Martian.

I'm learning so much from EF......
