Political flyers - how can I send them back?

I am getting a little bit annoyed that the SVP has chosen my post box to throw their rather offensive flyers into. I have tried calling them to tell them to stop, but all I got was a blurb about the freedom of speech. I have a "Keine Werbung" sign on my postbox which works against everyone it seems, except the SVP. Is there a trick that anyone knows of how I can return their post to them and make them pay for the costs? Or should I just write "Ich liebe Ausländer" on my postbox?

Re: Political flyers - how can I send them back?

I have seen it suggested in the past to just put all their stuff in an envelope and post it back to them without putting a stamp on, the theory being that they will then have to pay the postage.

I suspect it doesn't work in practice though, it sounds too good to be true.

Bundle them with your old newspapers. The last guy that tried to fight for Swiss democracy almost had to sacrifice his own son with an apple on his head as a target just to prove the point. All you have to do is get busy with some string and a pair of scissors.

There's a facebook group called:

"Die SVP soll ihren Propagandamüll gefälligst selbst entsorgen!"

Is there an address on the flyer?
If yes, write: 'Zurück an den Absender',
and send it back to them.

I am not sure, but guess the SVP will have to pay for the postage...

Edit: I've just read Zymogen's link. Apparently you can put the flyers into an envelope and send it, without a stamp, to the SVP headquarter. SVP Schweiz, Postfach 8252, 3001 Bern. So you will give them some additional work and can annoy them.

But why should we have to? If I have the right to stop advertising, why haven't I got the right to refuse their propaganda in my mail box- or indeed all political propaganda? Why should any political party have the RIGHT to stuff my mailbox with ****

You could find where one of the party leaders for your area lives, and put it all in HER/HIS mail box. If a significant % of us did this, they would soon get a bit fed up- especially when it overflows everywhere.

Maybe you could embrace the "zero political flyer" etiquette in a suitably democratic country like Belarus or Zimbabwe? I hear that North Korea doesn't even bother with the mailboxes either....

Because of freedom of speech.

Advertising is not freedom of speech, political BS is.

Hey, I'd love to not get any flyers from the Greens, PS, etc., but I just toss them in the trash. What's so hard about that?

Yeah, their stuff is ugly, but I think all political parties have a right to distribute their "point of view" as part of the democratic process. You could probably contact Konsumentenschutz, 031 370 24 24 to find out exactly what is permitted and what is not.

That said, I don't think the SVP gives a ff about your sensibilities or the sanctity of your mailbox.

Re: Political flyers - how can I send them back?

Well if I'm going to receive one, then I'd like to receive them all.
Seriously, now that they (SVP) have made the step to call our attention to their point of view, it would be good if the other political parties did the same so that we could make a real assessment based on all political opinions.
I do hope that they will.
(I'd like to read what the Green, Socialist and liberal parties have to say)

Re: Political flyers - how can I send them back?

Funny how the same few members turn up so quickly whenever the SVP/UDC is in anyway criticised
Freedom of speech should not include incitement to hatred and racism. I want NO part in this and should have the right to say NO.
Political points of views from all sides I have no objection to, as long as it does not include the above.

Re: Political flyers - how can I send them back?

I get pamphlets in the mailbox, mainly for local candidates. Haven't seen much, if anything on Cantonal or National politics in the mailbox. Guess that's the job of newspapers and TV... oh yeah, and radio, oh and the Interwebz.

One of the SVP/UDC 'pamplets' received last year was about 20 pages!
I've still got it somewhere and some of the stuff in there was pure rubbish.

Left or right, their slogans bore me to death. "Einer, der zuhört". "Bereit für Bern". Wow, how did you ever come up with that one.
