panzerturs

So we have been here in Zurich for a while and settled nicely. One question remains though: why the "panzerturs" or armoured doors ?

These can be found located in the basement garage of our apartment block and if closed would very successfully seal off the garage ?

Is it to do with the fact that a large quantity of oil is kept on site as fuel for the central heating..... or something more sinister ?

Nuclear bunker - although due to Swiss neutrality, all fallout should not cross the border.

Re: panzerturs

I think it has to do with the Cold War fear of some idiot pushing the button, I seem to remember that there was a requirement that ech house or each CH inhabitant must have access to a bunker. If you drive around on in the hills on the outskirts of Zürich you sometimes come across massive steel doors et into mountain sides. You'll find rows of tank traps crossing fields.

Nuclear blast proof shelters...mandatory for every residence up until a while back. Remnants from the past.

Re: panzerturs

The bunker regulations are still very relevant in the planning regulations. If the Mühleberg atomic power station goes bust, we will all be sitting in the bunkers with our neighbours. Can you imagine spending weeks with your neighbours in one sealed room? I think I would rather take my chances outside!

The main Swiss military tactic for the past 70 years is to take to the hills, and shoot down on the enemy stealing our gold and raping our wives. Wait a minute Wolli will be along soon to tell us that this is indeed a good idea.

Re: panzerturs

It also freak me out when i first saw the nuclear shelters... never saw one before, never tought i could be caught in the middle of a nuclear bomb/accident ... this is kind of a new fear for me (not really keeping me up at night).

is funny how here they (swiss people) tough of absolutely every single possibility of something happening ... i wouldnt be surprise if tomorrow a mandatory helmet is issued for your to be allowed to walk on the street .. in case something drops out of the sky (i would be pissed but not surprised)

Weeeell, now that you mention it, they did briefly discuss making drivers of open top cars wear helmets. Or was that the EU? Another reason not to join, talk about bureaucracy gone mad.

Re: panzerturs

wow, it would take away all the cool feeling of driving an open car

but why would they want you to wear a helmet ... if your roll down your car if you dont have roll bars, you are scre....wed with or without helmet ... unless you think again in the possibility of something randomly falling of the sky

people here think way to much thinks instead of just having fun
