Can I send chocolate by mail to EU?

Can I send some chocolate by mail to Germany, or will EU customs not allow it because it is food?

Travel to Konstanz for a day out and post it from Germany. Once there do some shopping.

If it's a small quantity it's OK: http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceComp.../ucm086165.htm

Re: Can I send chocolate by mail to EU?

FDA only concerns the import/mailing to the US, so I am not sure why
this link is relevant to this thread.

Speaking on that subject, I once bought a box of swiss liquor filled
chocholate, and the customs in NY smashed them, thinking perhaps
I could be smuggling drugs inside the chocolates.

Re: Can I send chocolate by mail to EU?

No worries. I have sent chocolates internationally on many occasions, even to the USA (and it was a lot). It has always made it, no problems. Just have to write "candy" on them customs sticker that goes on the box, and a modest value.

Re: Can I send chocolate by mail to EU?

So sorry, for some reason I mis-read the topic and thought the OP was asking about sending to the US. I did have to send chocolate to the US recently, and remembered I had to go through the whole "Prior notice" process. My bad.

I have sent chocolates to Germany before. I don't think there must be a problem!

Re: Can I send chocolate by mail to EU?

swiss post used to have a service for this, where you could order from their online shop. but they cancelled it. maybe this is related: https://directfactory.post.ch/mailin.../option/10/en?

of course, if you are sending chocolate you've bought, the story might be different.

Those lovely people in Sprungli will post chocolate for you (and charge quite a hefty feet too). Nice service though.

Re: Can I send chocolate by mail to EU?

Due to the warm weather the postal service has recommended only using personal couriers. Luckily I am a recognised courier, please PM me and I will bring the chocolate over the border for you.

Please note that Lindt and Sprüngli have the best wrappings to survive the journey.
