household goods what happens if i do not declare to customs

we are going to pass french-swiss board in La cure on thursday morning. My husband drives van with our household goods, me and children going by car which we need to declare as well. we have got all the papers ready. the question is what can happen if we just pass the board without declaring to customs? can we have any problems later?
we pass that board many times without stopping. Never saw any custom officer there, so how can we declare anyway.

Re: household goods what happens if i do not declare to customs

You have to go via a custom's office dedicated for imports - like the one in Vallorbe, to declare your goods coming in as part as your move. So going via an un-manned border crossing like La Cure is illegal. You are likely to get away with it - but you could also get caught and then it might get very complicated. You are taking a risk. Our local border control is not always manned- but they have regular patrols all over the place.

Are the van and car part of your official move? if they are and you do not declare them properly as part of your move- you will have to pay import tax on them and will have great difficulty registering them later. Do it properly- much easier and cheaper in the long run.

You can file a declaration at a closed boder, they will send an invoice for any tax payable on purchases. However I don't know if it will help the OP on this occasion.

You can't do this if you are importing goods and cars as part as your official move.

Thank you all for your answers. It means that you cannot declare on any border crossing. you have to go to special one to declare your goods.
When driving from England apart from Vallorbe are there any other border crossing we could go?

Our move was all pre-arranged with all the paperwork and an approx time and date. Perhaps Geneva, but you would have to check, not sure.
I'd say Vallorbe is smaller and would be easier. Take the Motorway to Besanšon the the normal road to Pontarlier then Ballaigues (which is just outside Vallorbe) then down to Yverdon and the Motorway to Lausanne, etc.
