Salary in Neuchatel.. help!

Dear people who I hope can help,

I am soon to finish a 1 year contract here in La Chaux-de-Fonds as a "stagiaire" = "intern", I have been offered a permanent contract of 72,000 CHF, and I truly have no idea if this is a good wage to be starting a permanent contract on, or whether they are taking advantage of the fact that I do not have the slightest idea.

Please could someone give me an indication as to whether this is ok or not?

Thank you kind people.

Enjoy this wonderful Swiss summer.

Re: Salary in Neuchatel.. help!

Completely out of clue about it...but you will definitely get answers. This amount sounds kinda appealing, though.

72000 netto/brutto ?

That's an excellent amount for La Chaux de Fonds.

Thank you very much for your help. Its still much better than I can get in England anyway, but I thought it wise to ask some people who are likely to know more than I (i.e. everyone.)

Re: Salary in Neuchatel.. help!

I agree. That's a pretty good starting salary especially in Chaux de Fonds.

what's your education? if you have a bachelor's, its good. if you have a masters or higher, should be more. if none, then take the opportunity!

*based on zurich salaries. i heard CDF wages are lower

Re: Salary in Neuchatel.. help!

It more or less corresponds to the average wage in Switzerland (in fact I think it's slightly above average) so yes, not bad for a first job in a relatively cheap town.

Re: Salary in Neuchatel.. help!

La Chaux-de-Fonds has some of the cheapest apartments available and your money there goes much much further than in Zurich or Geneva, or even Neuchatel - and you live very close to the French border for shopping there regularly. Excellent first salary- go for it.
BTW how are you getting on up there? I live in the mountains in the area.

Yes, I'd also take it. It is definitely not a low salary, it allows decent living, especially taking into account the rents in La Chaux de fonds. Good luck!

Whether or not this is a good salary depends on your level of education and your occupational field.

Re: Salary in Neuchatel.. help!

I'd say 72000 in La Chaux de Fonds is OK - in Zurich it might be more difficult. Properly qualified and experienced I'd say this is far too low.

AEventually - are you still there, did you take the job? How is it going?

If you search on the forum you will find a few salary calculators. But it depends on what the job is, not so much what your age & qualifications are. Is your degree recognized? Are you going to be architect or a drafting person or a secretary?

A friend from who studied architecture in Brazil couldn't get her degree validated to be a full on architect so after years of searching for a job she took a job at +/- 65K as a drafts person.

My degree is recognized in Switzerland. I'm going to be an architect there. I know that the salary for architects it's not a high one, but Zurich it's very expensive city. I'm looking for some apartments and the rents are very, very high ones! That's one of the reasons that I'm afraid to accept a "low" salary..
Thanks for you're help!

Re: Salary in Neuchatel.. help!

72,000 sounds low to me for an architect with that much experience - I thought only teachers ( commonly being the lowly paid of tertiary educated people in many countries) got that sort of salary.

Did you search the site for salary calculators?
According to the site below it seems quite low.
