Have i gone back in time?

Are the trains here some kind of time machine?? Do they run on 1.21 giga watts??

The guy sitting opposite me has a pager on his belt, a pager!!! Who even sells those now ? And not a small one, its blooming huge. (not to mention his shorts and long black socks and trainers) oh crap now he is shouting down his mobile phone

A guy in the next row is wearing a black suit, black shirt and a pink tie !!! I'm back in the 80s

I look forward to reading the replies in 30 years

Re: Have i gone back in time?

I love that fax machines are still all the rage here. If I send an order to a supplier over their site or by email I'll get delivery in maybe a week (sometimes only after a phone call to prod them ), by fax I have my stuff the next day.

I saw a fanny pack this morning. Couldn't tell if the fellow was Swiss or not. But those still exist in the U.S. so I can't really talk .

What do Brits call fanny packs?

Re: Have i gone back in time?

AFAIK, unlike mobile SMS and emails, Swisscom basically gives you an SLA for the message-roundtrip-time etc. to your pager.
Reception is also supposed to be better.

People in the emergency-services still (have) use then.

Exactly. SMS delivery isn't guaranteed (about 1 in 500 goes missing), so if you are relying solely on that to be notified of critical systems going belly up then...

I've found reception simply to be "different" than better. There are places where, when on call, a pager will get reception and a mobile phone will not, and vice versa.

Re: Have i gone back in time?

For the record: I know a guy who is running around with a pager as well - he is a fire fighter and they all have one to carry around with them... the really stylish ones in plastic and "XL" with a lovely plastic clasp to fix it to your belt...
