I read some of these posts, and I do wonder what exactly it is that some of these people are smoking

Very aggressive, spurting out "facts" which seem to have no scientific (or indeed logical) basis and just generally rude.

I don't care if you smoke. Just don't plonk yourself next to me when I'm eating and light up, and don't sit there blowing it towards me either. That's about all I want.
And that's not aggressive?

Ok, then how about this - you are hiking, up in the mountains, there to enjoy the fresh air, you get on a chairlift and, yes, the people on the chairlift with you light up a cigarette. Once they finish smoking, the butts get flicked out into nature. What is the point of going up into the mountains when you intend to pollute the air and the environment AND ruin it for others? Some smokers are very considerate and I understand why it's hard to stop or why you might not want to stop out of principle, but there are very many of them where smoking is symptomatic for a general type of character.

Also, next time I see someone flicking a cigarette butt into a lake or stream, I might just have to push them in. 1 cigarette butt = 30 liters of water polluted, morons!
Okay, just as a counterpoint. I chose not to have children because there are enough human being on the planet already. Now children have a much bigger polluting effect on the environment than cigarettes. (Noise, carbon, energy, water, etc. ad nauseum)
The next time I see people with their tonnes of genetic offspring I just might have to push.....oh damn it I don't mind, but I do get a little pissed when people look at my habit as the worst that a man can do.

Now....WHEN WILL THIS FREAKING THREAD DIE?????

After you unfavourably compared kids to cigarettes? Never. Unless it gets closed...

I did not unfavorably compare them. The comparison was very favourable. They are both a form of polution. Of course they have other uses as well and both are fun and both can give you warm feelings. Admittedly the kids are easier to fall in love with but then they are not for everyone.

Smoking is a choice. It affects other people.
Having kids is a choice. It affects other people.

Both have good effects, both have bad effects. If people can criticise my habits, I don't see why it does not work both ways?

Anyway mentioning this is what I was hoping that was going to get the thread closed. ....MODS

As soon as this thread is closed another anti-smoking thread will be set up, so best leave it be!

It's just a matter of who gets there first.

Next time round, maybe a smoker should open a "Fags; Aren't They Ace?" thread in a pre-emptive strike.

Not me mate. I don't do that muck. I'm as pure as the driven snow, me. But I'm too vertiginous to climb onto a high horse or a soapbox.

Wouldn't that create some cultural colloquial confusion..?

Perhaps "Fags; I Enjoy a Good Puff" would be more inclusive?

Not as much as this thread did for me - I've had a picture in my mind since I read the OP of a grumpy seal-hunter first thing in the morning

What profiling crap is this you are talking ? It´s clear you don´t like smokers or smoking. Fine. I will give that the consideration it deserves.

I smoke like a Durham Chimney. What does that make me in your ridiculous chain of thought ?

cigars are devised to last endlessly, even if less so than a Sheesha which keeps you up for an hour
