I love the gyms!

...I am now confirming a theory, as a 1 yr+ Stockerstr. Migros gym member, that gyms here (or at least Migros ones) are mostly about planning your weekends and chatting up other members. It cracks me up watching how people try to pick each other up and show off! I fondly recall the 'Third Space' in London, where apart from instructors, people simply worked out and followed their programs....Good example from yesterday - I am running 10K, sweating (and presumably smelling) like a sherpa, a chap stops in front of my machine and starts talking to me about the weather outside, etc, etc. My husband, running on a machine next to me, piss*** himself laughing. Eventually, the guy works up the courage to ask whether I am free on a Friday night (at which point my husband replies - "I'm afraid she isn't, as we are celebrating our wedding anniversary'). Priceless. I haven't laughed so hard in at least a week....

Well, sorry to contradict your theory, but the Migros gym in Baden isn't like that!
Most people actually do break into a sweat working out there!

This is so funny, but so true!

That's why I cancelled my gym membership and I am finally going back to martial arts, joining a new studio (that, and the fact that I find the gym a generally boring type of workout - entertaining episodes like the above aside, or course, hehehe!).

However, I must say, kudos to the guy for the guts. A man who has the b*** to approach a woman is such a rarity nowadays that, if done nicely and not in a pushy way (and the person understand when a no is a no), it can actually be flattering and nice.

No time/chance of chatting people up while you are practicing with a sword though

Happy workouts to all!

Well, based on my Nepal experience, the smell is questionable, however understandable considering the conditions..And yes, I am free on Saturday night! Actually hang on, let me check with the hubby

I generally try to palm any girl friend I have off with any random chatter-upper, makes things easier in the long run.

But honestly: While I see that somebody on a treadmill can hardly run away ... it's hardly the most communicative place either to chat somebody up.

I'd rather try the powerplate station. "Hi there!" "Hi-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i"...

Tja thats what you get after 30 years of feminism and talking down on men. And then at the age of 30 you start wondering why you have to fry your eggs cause you can't find a nice man.

I did not really have the impression that Frederica is exactly too shy to talk to people... but Italians probably still love a bit of "Ciao Bella"...

Westside seems to a good place for just working out (gym style).

Although this mornings effort (at Looren) overlooking the Greifensee is pretty much impossible to beat

Re: I love the gyms!

Why is it so ridiculous and laughable that someone would ask you out? And what's wrong with socializing at the gym and hitting on attractive members of opposite (or same) sex, as long as you are not creepy and annoying doing that?

If you're not 18 any more then there are not that many places where you can meet other singles, many people don't want to date colleagues and as you get older, your friends will be all coupled up and they'll only know another coupled up people. So that basically leaves bars and clubs or hobbies/sports.

And at least at the gym you are generally sober and have already seen the target of your interst in unflattering spandex, sweating, messed up hair and no make-up - meaning no Coyote Ugly moments in the morning. All good in my book!

Some people are not available and/or not interested in being hit on at the gym? Well you just tell them thanks, but no and usually that's sufficient, not so difficult.

Re: I love the gyms!

Yeah, it is nice to chat up with people in the Gym. Though my wife wouldn't be really pleased if am hitting on someone , I do have some Gym work out friends.

Infact I would be quite pissed if everyone in the Gym keeps to himself. I guess we are not in a police training academy! For me a gym is a place for socializing also!

For the socializing lot it would be quite boring if we don't have these serious people around.

Uh oh, I am not even going to get into this discussion - I would end up derailing the OP's thread and talk too much, and it's beside the point.

I'll just say two things (strictly my personal opinion): 1. Nice men exist and there are plenty of them. Those who are not afraid of a potential "no" to talk to a woman are more rare, but still plenty. Those who are not intimidated by a strong, independent woman, are even more rare, but they exist. I applaud these, and I wish there were more. I found one and I hang on tight, for the time being 2) Some women (myself included) are totally indifferent as to having a biological child or adopting one, and therefore couldn't care less about time passing, biological clocks, and similar BS - no need to fret about "frying eggs", as you put it.
