...romanticise how great the UK is? It doesn't have to be great, it's home.
I've been here for over forty years, happily married, lots of Swiss friends, but show me a picture of green fields with a nice hedge between them...

Some folk find the adaption easier than others but it helps sometimes to know that LOTS of folk felt, or feel, the same way.
Have a good look in the Trailing Spouse thread MathNut linked to as there are some brilliant ideas to help the transition.
About "show me a picture of green fields with a nice hedge between them" makes my point really (About places are no longer as you remember) ; it is probably an industrial estate now

Also many industrial farmers are grubbing up hedges because they take up too much space.
Quote "It is likely that over 300,000 miles of hedgerow have disappeared since 1945. Whilst most hedgerow loss has been due to changes in agricultural practices, about 40,000 miles may have been lost to building, quarrying, reservoirs and roads."

Re: Homesick Partner

My husband and I are quasi-British (i.e. Australians) and are relative newcomers to Nyon too. PM me if you and your fiancee want to be introduced to the best gelati this side of Lac Leman.

And the TV thing - can't go past these guys: http://www.trnsa.ch/
