My MIL taught me how to make these ruffle scarves a couple of weeks ago. The yarn is hard to come by in the States, but I've seen it in department stores here--and for much cheaper than in the States

Made this one circa 2009. It's the one on the right (Sorry, I couldn't resist. I am not crafty of artsy at all!)

It's not easy to photograph paintings... They both have lots of texture to them and that you can't see either. Anyway, here are two that I actually have (bad) photos of!

Re: What do you make? Show us your stuff...

Since I've been in Switzerland, I've taken up crochet. I got into it in a big way very quickly as I love keeping my hands busy while listening to music or watching TV. Plus, I find it very relaxing. I've attached some pictures of my recently finished projects.... a green hat and scarf for me, a stripey throw I made for my Mum and a wavy baby blanket I made for my niece.

I really need to learn to crochet more than just the most basic stitch - this stuff is beautiful!

Re: What do you make? Show us your stuff...

Kristanez - I can tell you as a crochet newbie that it's amazing what you can achieve with very basic stitches. I think that really helped me get into it, because I wasn't forced to start with really boring projects!

The baby blanket I posted is all just a simple single crochet (in US terminology; in British terminology it is double crochet) and chains to start off with. It's from a beginner "I taught myself to crochet" book and was much easier to make than it looks like it would be.

If you're serious about getting into crochet (or knitting for that matter, which is something I'd love to learn and have no idea how to do), I highly recommend joining Ravelry (www.ravelry.com). Ravelry is totally free to join and is a community for knitters/crocheters and other people into stuff you can make with wool! It has a fantastic library of patterns including which are available free and difficulty ratings.

Ravelry is great. One has to fish out through the pattern to pick the best version at times, but it's fun. I have some of the stuff I made lately here.

We can have a go together next time we meet. I taught myself to crochet when I spent 6 months lying on my back in hospital after a car accident. Recently had a go again. How about Macramé - that is fun too. Bring some string!

My ravelry stuff can be found here:

You'll notice that I just tend to photograph on tables / beds and not worry about modelling. Of course, most of my stuff is blanket-y so I don't have a lot of options!

Dr. Mom, that was priceless, good on you!

I refinish furniture, sew curtains, reupholster furniture and have recently taken up oil painting. Here's a stylized one of the original metal sign that used to be out in front of the Olympic museum in Lausanne and another that just came out my brain. (Warning, I am partial to mid-century modern simple style!)

Thanks MusicChick. The reading throw isn't finished, but that's the picture I put together when I was figuring out what colours I wanted to use. I keep it up there as inspiration because the project seems a bit on the huge side!

TheSpouse - I am full of nothing but respect and admiration that you are able to refinish/reupholster furniture! Wow.
