Don't worry, it's coming and in a big way. See http://meteo.search.ch/prognosis and hit the arrow for the 'future' animation to show you the storms. Hurray for big storms (maybe hail not so much...)! The temperature will fall like a rock in its wake
When it pours, it rains....!

Re: Stormy Basel - Hail [also storm in other regions]

The weather seems to have killed the BBC, at least in Neuchâtel over Swisscom TV. Other channels seem to be OK, but BBC1-4 were zapped at about 19:20.

Awwww. I'm sad. I thought it was going to rain all morning long tomorrow. Looks like it will be over by 4:00am.

*sulk*

(temperature map is cool to watch though -- buh bye, heat!)

The sky near us looks bloody weird at the moment and certainly ominous.

Lots of people going out dressed in optimistic summer-wear with not an umbrella in sight.

Oh well, time for a cheeky beer.

I'm just down the road near Fribourg in my cheese tent at the Highland Games and I have 6 kilted Swiss chaps helping me hold down the tent. They are also helping me to drink all of my Hot Toddies.

And I'm camping tonight.....

I used to play this "blow wind blow" game when I was a child and I am snickering like a juvenile over here with the mental picture of the wind blowing up their kilts. phwwwwwwoar

Edit: I just realised that the "blow wind blow" example is putting a target on me back for further juvenile jokes.

Is it wrong that I have in my mind, the image of the wind blowing up their kilts? phwwwwwwoar
I did wear a kilt at last years Highland Games but all the Swiss lasses kept asking me if it was true that we wear nothing underneath. "Of course" I answered.

One cheeky lass didn't believe me though and insisted on having a look, which I refused, although I did allow her to have a feel....

"Errrrr.... that's gruesome!" she screamed

"Yes lassie. And if you touch it again it'll gruesome more" I replied.

On a second thought, what does the expression "helping me hold down the tent" mean exactly?

(And I don't even dare to ask what a hot toddie is...)

I'm amazed by just how accurate the forecasting is these days, last Monday they predicted the heatwave would break this Friday.... spot on!

Michael Bloody Fish couldn't predict a hurricane that was 6 hours away

Re: Stormy Basel - Hail [also storm in other regions]

Couple of rumbles of thunder and a couple of hours of rain but nothing earth shattering round our way. Bit chilly this morning, though. There are people outside wearing what look like umm... "jackets" and "pullovers". Haven't seen those for a while...

Re: Stormy Basel - Hail [also storm in other regions]

Strange, with all the terrifying warnings of the storm we heard on DRS yesterday, telling us to batten down the hatches, tie your car to the ground, break your windows in advance to save time etc , all we experienced here in F-dorf near Basel was some prolonged rain.

As Stanley Holloway said "There were no wrecks, and nobody drowned, Fact nothing to laugh at all".

It reminds me of hurricane Lothar in 1999, which merely managed to displace a couple of garden chair cushions for me. Although it did cause my neighbour's gross Christmas decoration construction to collapse, which was secretly much appreciated.

Re: Stormy Basel - Hail [also storm in other regions]

Wow! that was some thunderstorm in Basel just now. Hail as big as golf balls (i kid you not). It set off a load of car alarms and quite a few are dented. It looks like it's coming back too because as I type the thunder is building and the rain is getting heavier and heavier.

I have never seen anything like it before and despite it being dangerous it was very cool to see. Mind you it's easy to say that from the safety of your apartment!

EDIT: Basel is red on the weather alerts for Switzerland! Sorry i can't post a link for some reason.

Hey the Summer beach at Aqua is not affected: the kids are happy partying on, especially those coming to the stand up comedy at the Kuppel next door afterwards
