| | It doesn't make sense to live in Zug with 400k a year or less
At least according to Wall Street Journal that is: | Quote: | | | | "if you make 300,000 or 400,000 francs, you struggle" in Zug, said Kilian Borter, a public-relations executive, referring to incomes that equal $380,000 to $490,000. Living in Zug "maybe starts to make sense starting at about a half a million" francs a year in income, he said. | | | | | I guess I should go ask for a pay raise then so that my life would start making sense...

We finally have an official answer to the constant "Is 150k enough to survive in Switzerland?"
I also need to have a serious conversation with my boss... I am living waaaaaaaay under my comfort limit!

I guess, what the article means is, that you can't afford to have 3 cars and a mansion, which is obviously poverty to some people.
Different planet.

I'm so glad I'm not living in Zug. I guess I'd starve to death.

Different planet. | | | | | Well, one needs the Ferrari to commute, the Maserati for family visits and the Porsche Cayenne for the groceries. Imagine the maintenance costs...
As for the mansion: since my daughter considers herself a princess, I should aim for a castle. How on earth would that fit into such a small budget? | This user would like to thank Amanandhisdogs for this useful post: | |

I wouldnt live there unless I earned 500k+. It is such a dreadfully dull place and the tax saving would have be significant. A 100m of old town and a lake does not a paradise make.

Having read the article, it seems to be more slanted towards the cost of buying housing...is that part of it true, my Zug friends?

Well as from 2012 Lucerne will be the new canton with the lowest coorporate tax in CH. Maybe that will help Zug a little bit with its "Luxury-Problem"
To say you would struggle at 300K - 400K is sensationalistc.
Say if for a 4.5 bedroom flat you'd pay about 1000 more than where you live now (canton Schwyz aside), you would have to save 12K tax by moving to ZG to make it worth your while. I'd say for most people around 200K would be enough to "break-even"
(So glad I don't have an income high enough to dictate me where to live...)

Not much available, and if available, then at exorbitant lease!

Reading that article made me feel like I’m living in a bubble; in a country where 1 of every tenth household qualifies for millionaire status (even if in US $), and where it’s possible that a household making a mere 100,000 or less yearly qualifies for cantonal housing assistance of 500 francs monthly toward mortgage payments. Come to think of it, now I’m feeling like I’m living outside of that bubble. Good thing the mountains are free |

I know I wouldn't move to Zug for less than half a million. Granted I'd live in Vaud for a quarter! |

Of course, on a power/weight basis, factoring driver weight (which most neglect), even my 26 year old Guzzi LeMans is faster! (after a couple roll-ons up the Gotthard last year against a Maranello, he gentalmanyly admitted defeat against my 999R)
